they are supposed to use a flex agent to help keep the paint and clear from cracking. Mostly from hitting small bumps, maybe getting ur bumper stuck on something and get pulled, and regular driving causes alot of flex. They are also should have only a little but of color and clear on the front bumper. Factorys do that to reduce cracking and chipping from road debris. Only bad things is u can buff and polish front bumpers alot. BTW when u re skin... u mean they skinned the door with body filler or they put a new skin of metal?? Looks good for ur price but idk about the paint they use or what. It looks kinda dull like a 2 stage. Could be since ur not in a pic with the sun out. I'm just saying it looks kinda dull and dry and kinda orange peely...

paint looks good, but i dont think that type-x wing flows very well with the piggy bumper. i would have got a type-x or at least chuki bumper before painting it, but thats just me.

Paint looks really good and i like the tails

it's not because they didn't put a flex agent in there. there was already a flex agent on the paint. most, if not, all paints and clear coat comes with a flex agent mix in it already. the problem is that the plastic bumper require more prep and material.plastic bumpers require you to bake it to remove the resin from the mold, then you have to wash it, scuff untill dull and have to apply a plastic adhesion then primer/sealer, base, clear.

is that fiberglass? sometimes body kit already comes with those stress crack and people don't notice it until it gets painted. either someone bumped into your bumper or you didn't brace it to where you drive on the freeway and it just flops all over the place

new metal w/the reskin and it may look orange peely in some of the second group of pics because there are little beads of water on the car I was in the middle of washing it, also the paint is mirror-like reflecting all the trees and cement, it wasn't the best place to take pictures

true on the flexability on new paints but sometimes places like plastic bumper require an additive to increase it or u can thin out the paint and clear but no one likes that. Most plastic bumpers have the resins removed from the factroy unless its fiber glass part then the gel coat is still there. usually u can just use a primer sealer with a flex agent in it but of course use an adhesion promoter. I believe most of of bumpers and plastic body panels have release agents inside the composites or i think only hybrid plastics.....

ahh ok that explaines the orange peel look. I Looked at it better from some angles and it does look better. I thought they forgot to cut and buff it. Btw why did u reslkin ur rear panel? rust? or just alot of damge? I just don't see any pics of alot of damage so i'm confused on why they would put a whole new one. WEll i hope the paint holds up and their work. They should have told u not to wash the car for about 2-3 weeks since its still soft and hardening.

Isnt Earl Sheib much cheaper plus you get a really good paint job for the price. I wish i had pics to post but the gold level from them is really good. Even the cheapo Silver will be satisfactory.

But otherwise the car is looking real good mate. I iz about to paint my car as soon as i get the damn silvia face on.

The damage wasn't extremely bad but the panels were wavy and there was evidence of prior shotty body work, basically the paint job was originally 800 bucks 1/2 off making it 400 plus I paid 900 bucks for body work, prep work, door jambs, etc. I think the place was desperate for business. I found the coupon ad on craigslist. I gave them a price range to work with, but since they had 900 bucks to account for and not much body work to do, they had to start pointing out every tiny detail. I also got a discount on the metal used to reskin, who knows they probably tell me that just to make me feel better about dropping so much money.

Okay It's been over a year since I started this thread/ I believe someone wanted to see the paint job a year later so here are some new pics. Since then I got new wheels as you may be able to tell.

The paint has held up pretty good seeing as how this is my daily driver. There are two problem spots that I will take a picture of and upload later.

i am impressed, not bad for the Macco shop, i guess the ones in florida sucks, well there are diffrent types of paint, in my shop we use BASF, clear alobe is 180.00 a gallon, then other companies have clear for 40 dollars a gallon, but they got a weird yellow tint on them.i guess not all Maccos are created equal
