You can't compare tuning an Evo or Sti with tuning the M/G/Z. The power that you can gain from cranking up the boost, advance the timing to ultimately get the best AFR for your Evo will make so much more POWWAAAH than the NA-VQ engine.

I think it boils down to the tuner. Ultimately, what you're trying to accomplish on the dyno is the same as doing pull on the street. You're trying to capture the data and analyze it. Once you know what it's telling you, you can tweak it for best performance of that car. Of course, it's much safer to do pull on the dyno then on the street for obvious reason.

Having your car tune on a dyno from a reputable shop is the best way as you know they will stand behind their work. Of course there are shops who will use your car as a test mule as the tuners are so new to the technology. For instance, there's a shop about 1.5hr away from me that will charge me a good 600 bucks just to flash a standard map that he developed for other NA-VQ engine without having anytime on the dyno. If i want dyno, I have to pay more.

Bottom line - if you're close to a shop that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a dyno tune, then go for it. Of course, make sure this shop has a tuner that knows what s/he's doing. If you're like me, you're going to have to do the next best thing, leveraging tuner that other have good experience with to tune your car.

Mine is street tuned and difference was very noticeable. Fortunately there is an old airfield nearby so was able to do many pulls while datalogging. And seymore is the most patient guy in the world lol took us about two weeks until we got it perfect. And i have a cable so i can plug it in anytime and check for error codes and erase em i think, change ignition timing, and stuff like that.

Def +1 to using seymore4. I didn't and regret! I could have had the cable and tune for $50 less than I paid and still have the same or better results plus I love to snoop around in the ECU and see what other stuff I can break. :D

This has nothing to do with seymore4, I'm not here to bash him at all. Most of you here should know me by now & know how I am.

I just posted what was best for me

Its the Osiris license that costs $$$. Like now if I get retuned, even at the other shop - its only $150/hr. Probably take 2 hours so $300 I am out the door. Just sucks a** rhat now I will be $1050 into the TUNE portion.

Thanks for the support guys. I'm just trying to save guys $$.. tuning these cars isn't rocket science, but it can be very lucrative for shops that prey on unsuspecting customers. Not only is the initial price lower doing it my way, but I also offer free updates to the tune for all my customers if they ever need them

Hey Robert,
Do you know if they have an AWD at the shop you went to ? Also, what was the shop in Long Island that you were thinking of going to ?

The shop in Jersey doesn't do all-wheel drive.

The shop in long Island was
PERFORMANCE MOTORSPORT EAST. I heard they do have good tuners. But i went with JDS anyway and it turned out to be really good.

Not sure the type of dyno or what gear the pull was in. Shop was VSR Motorsports in Tampa.

Maybe you have a freak vh45de?! Numbers are def higher than they should be for an intake exhaust and a tune. Good job anyway

That is a dynomite dyno. And he has a VK, not VH.

The thing with mustangs, dynodynamics, dynomite, etc is that you can change loads on it and it will give you different results. This is why having a properly calibrated dyno is key when using those dynos. You cannot change a dynojet. BUT take into consideration it doesnt "really" matter what load its set at, if it remains consistant then whatever gains you made are what you made.
