Greg ,Are you saying the extended warranty is not sold to the consumer ? In any case the cost to the dealer is relevant , if part of the negotiation / give and take for the car , I require they give it to me at cost.( would be a good investment on their part , knowing they made over $15,000 in their service dept. on my Q in the last 8 years , most of which was done under the extended warranty....)Also , if I wait untill just before original factory warranty runs out , common knowledge ( or impression , or misinformation) is that price of the extended warranty asked by the dealer will be higher compared to getting it out front .Of course , better to keep the money in my pocket as long as possible. .

I got $8275 off of MSRP for my basic, unloaded, but still wonderful, M45. Admittedly, it was my third Infiniti from my dealer, but I got good deals on the others from him too.

Well, here's the scoop:

"Cost" to the dealership is approx $1400 on an M45 (give or take a little depending on the company it goes through).

Consumer usually pays approx $1900 (again, depending on negotiations, deductible and the "cost" to the dealership).

You indicated you'd want them to give it to you at "cost", but that's like buying a car at "invioce". It's almost impossible to find out EXACTLY what the dealer paid for the car. If my grandmother GIVES me her new car for $5 because she's too old to drive, does it stand to reason i should sell it to you for $5? No. It's the value of the item that's relevant.

But as you said in your last sentence, better to keep the $ on hand - I bought my warranty out to 9 years / 115K miles for $1500 (and I didn't even negotiate).

Misinformation is the appropriate word - Cost to extend the warranty later is NOT appreciably higher than doing it when the car is new. Also, it's not the best idea to go through the dealer when applying an extended warranty at the end of factory coverage.

Being as honest as possible with you - but many/most dealerships make their money reinforcing misconceptions.

Z - this is ubelievable price , but I don't think it would be available anywhere on the east coast , and I've been doing the rounds heavily for the last 10 weeks . Also maybe because your particular car was basic spec. which may be harder to sell - around here anyway . The lowest I've seen adverised , was I think from Grubbs , last month for $7500 off .

It was! :D That is why I went for it and drove it off the lot! It had been there for a while, I think. Took some negotiation to get there though ... they got stuck at $7275 off, and I waved my check book and offered a thousand less. They said no, so I walked out and called a friend at work to pick me up - fifteen minutes later, the salesman came out to the curb and agreed to the lower price!Quote »Also maybe because your particular car was basic spec. which may be harder to sell - around here anyway.[/quote]That may have been the reason, I quite agree!

Greg ,Appreciate the candid discussion . Very interesting , since the $1400 price is very similar if I remember , to what I paid the dealer for the extended on the Q 8 years ago , and they gave it to me at "cost" then also. The 9 / 115K is not a factory product . Where can I get this warranty ? . There is a lot of bad publicity out there about some oufits dealing in extended warranties , some of which went under , etc.

I got a 3 year 40K mile aftermarket warranty on my car when I bought it (at 75K, end of factory extended) from WarrantyByNet.com.

Not one of the ones that went under, and they've been joy to deal with - Almost $7K in repairs since I bought the warranty. :D

p.s. If you can still get $7K under MSRP, you'd better do it - That means the dealer is GIVING you $2K, selling the car $2K less than they paid for it. Not gonna happen.

The $7K below MSRP deals ended 11/30/03, as the factory stopped $2K in incentives on that date. There's still $5K in "trunk money" on some M's.

Greg , I will certainly check your warranty deal. Regarding the $7K under , I just checked the local papers today , and still see $7225 under from one particular dealer that has been very agressive around here . ( not my place ) . I also called my sales manager today , and told him I am coming down friday . They already sold the Graphite I was eyeballing for the last 2 months , but still have the Green in my spec. but it is now prominently desplayed in the showroom , for the last 2 weeks.Incidently , I checked my purchase records for the 91Q , and the extended 7/100K 'Factory Protection Plan' actually cost me only $1150 back in 1995 . I guess that was pretty close to their cost back then. That must have been the best insurence policy I ever bought . It paid for the engine-out chain guides job among many other things . I estimate total dealer repair work before warranty ran out at $8-10K.

Just for kicks, make sure you shoot me your dealer's best quote on the M.

I have a green one here in the showroom as well - Doubt I can go low enough to justify shipping, but it's worth a 1-minute email.

yidal .. strangely enough, my Emerald Mist came in a dealer trade from Atlantic Infiniti (which is in NY) ..

Of course, I got mine back in September, when there was $3000 PLUS some additional incentive money .. which allowed me to get mine for around $9500 below sticker (on a lease deal) on a car equipped with everything except the Tech Package.

Reason being, my dealer had only been open a few weeks and wanted to sell some cars ! They assured me they can no longer give that deal to ANYONE else that I send in there (I've tried and NO ONE has gotten it) .. They also told me that some of the incentive money is no longer available. But in my case, I got the full $3000 that was available plus like an additional $2400 or so (it should have only been $1500). Still not sure how I managed such a great deal !!!

But -- I'm glad I did it when I did - you are right, there are NOT many around our area anymore ! And if you can get close to $8000 off, that's still a good deal !!

My 'family dealer' has the Emerald Mist + everything except Tech. The other has the Graphite , with same spec. Will find out tomorrow.

Titanium? Whazzat? I'm not familiar with Titanium as an M45 color (except for the wheels). Enlighten me. I only know about these:

BTW, they ever let you out for lunch? My office is at 32nd St. & Camelback, not all that far away from your dealership.

Sorry - I meant Diamond Graphite (same as yours).

Too many cars/colors to keep track of.

We'll definitely do lunch some time soon. Looking forward to it.

I would strongly suggest anyone wanting a great deal on an end of model year Infiniti talk to Greg (Hitman) He is with one of the largest dealers in the country and he still has cars. We have had extensive phone conversations over the last several days and he knows his stuff. One of the things we talked about was the idea of shipping cross country. Trust me, you can buy a car long distance from a VOLUME dealer and still roll the shipping price into the deal and come out WAY ahead of your local dealer. I live in Maryland and bought my Viper that way from Nebraska.

The M45 caught my eye, too. My understanding is that its been in production for five or six years in Japan. Is that right? The local dealer service guy says, "No." He calls it, "a parts car", slapped together from bits of other Infiniti vehicles with no plans from Infiniti to continue import. Considering I've seen maybe two on the streets of the Twin Cities, my plan is to wait until '05 and bottom feed as one comes off lease. Although, I gotta tell you, I've never cared for unframed windows.

No, the M45 is a Y34 JDM Gloria/Cedric with an Infiniti badge. The way things look right now I'm going to be trying to pick one up used/off-lease...unless I can get a better deal on a 2004 Acura TL (I've been working for an Acura dealer and have been very impressed with it).

All this makes my 94 Q seem not so good.... :(

Whatever Infiniti I get next, Im most likely gonna have to have a 1st gen.... The G50 is IMO the ONLY real infiniti, closely followed by the M45.....

Im not sure if Id go for the M or the Q... Arent they pretty much the same??

Hopefully someday I will be able to hook up another NICO member with my Q, cuz once Im done its gonna be nice..... REAL NICE.....

Dont get me wrong I love it, but all the talk of M45 makes me envious.... Oh well, cant have everything at 17 I guess.... :D

Id still like to know how the M45 compares to the new Q45.... Without driving both, Id go for the Q because its the flagship model, and I like having top of the line.... But you may be TOO secluded in the Q45, meaning it doesnt have much feel...
