I went to Takeda's website and they do not list an intake for the M37. Can you please specify what you installed?

Thanks!

Cool -- didn't see that thread. What made you choose the Takeda intake instead of the Stillen?

From outside the car it sounds almost the same to me, loud on a cold start and quiet when warmed to operating temp. From inside it is quiet while running but has a slight 'bass' to it or tone that isn't audible on the stock system.

I can't really give a good elaborate current comparison because I installed Takeda intakes recently so I hear them in concert with the exhaust now. But above is how I perceived them before the Takeda's.

Remember I have only the Axle back section, I suggest those who want more sound get the after-cat back. I did this mod for appearance.

Larz I believe the Stillen mufflers are actually MagnaFlow 14829 Mufflers
Awesome, thanks for the explanation. I'm considering the Stillen exhaust and I would definitely do the full cat back on mine and maybe even the Takeda intakes. I used to have an FX45 and the exhaust note on there was really nice. I'm glad to hear that it's louder/deeper than stock.

I don't have the Takeda intakes , "ALTERED" is the user who has them installed. He should be able to answer that question for ya.

JB I ordered the Takeda's for a 370Z, the engine bay is very similar. I previously read Stillen had fitment issues in a thread somewhere, but browsing G37/370Z forums to see what was popular brought the Takeda's to my attention so I tried them.

As an update on the Exhaust: we added test pipes to my car. Invidia Part # HS09N7ZTPP for a 370z.

Installation: Perfect fit, as if it were made for the M, even with my AWD. The install is a little bit of a bear, as the studs that attach the OE cats are TIGHT, we actually snapped two of them. It is a straight forward install though, nothing special required. Other than maybe some heat to coax some of the bolts and studs to come out. Took about two hours taking our time and extracting the broken studs from the OE cats.

Driving Impressions
: First off these eliminate the "gurgling" sound from the front of the car when you start the engine cold. That made me instantly like them. After warming the car and noticing the "un-restricted" exhaust smell, we took it out for a drive.

The sound I think many of you will like, it does resemble a G37, yet it has a very strong resonance under load around 3K RPM and higher. That resonance is a love or hate deal, I actually don't mind it so far. The car is louder though, period. At start up I find it too loud (I stood behind it). It idles slightly louder, accelerates a little louder under light load, and under heavy load it is substantially louder than previously.

Now the smell, it is good to those of us that like race cars, but bad overall. Bad for the fact that it is so pronounced. It WILL get into the interior, it is strong while sitting at a light, and you might not want to drive in front of the police.

The check engine light also payed me a visit, I'm sure that needs no explanation as to why. This and the smell are the reasons I don't plan to leave these on too long, was worth trying for the experience though. I know you guys want vids, I'll see what I can muster up.

That was a brilliant review! Thanks for the info. I still don't want to change my exhaust or add intakes. I like that growling and revs can be heard inside the cabin when I mash the pedal, but I quite fancy the silent interior at idle and even at a steady 90mph on the motorway - not sure I want to change that part.
However, reviews like this one are absolutely great at providing us with knowledge about how these products sound and perform on our specific cars! Well done, mate!

great job^

Another avenue you might want to explore is the MotorDyne Products...they make a y-pipe replacement to help eliminate the exhaust fumes from test pipes/HFC's... its the xyz pipe w/HFC. I had it installed on my car when I ran BERK High Flow Cats... The high flow cat module used with the ypipe will take care of the fumes as well as decrease the loudness under load. Call Motordyne and ask Tony (owner) if the G37/370Z xyz pipe will fit the M37 - I'm thinking it should bolt up to the test pipes your using or stock cats... there's products for either the DE or HR motors... Or you can upgrade to the Motordyne ART pipes for the HR engine...that's big time!!

I have been thinking of switching to High Flow Cats, we shall see. The Motordyne stuff looks like it won't fit with AWD, but thanks for the recommendation.

Regarding exhaust questions from another thread, I think these pics are most relevant here. So, some G sedan reference photos:

You have to really analyze these, but you'll see how similar they are. Not the same, but worth trying in my opinion. Notice the different suspension mounting and the rear steering in the M, things to watch out for when considering a G sedan exhaust for your foundation.

Hi all.I just installed my stillen cat back.and I love it.no to much loudness no to little.just what I wanted.smooth nice not overly aggressive tone.with that said,I didn't want a crazy loud exhaust.I lived that life already.I owned 3 Mazda rx7s 1 being turbo.all had straight pipe exhausts that were so loud.never passed inspections and always got pulled over.anyhow.I'm happy and install took 35mins on a lift.cost 50 bucks.since my friend owns the shop.so guess I'm lucky.its amazing how perfect it fits.so if you don't want a aggressive sounding exhaust.just mellow compared to stock.buy stillen! :naughty:

Hi Guys,I'm looking for an exhaust upgrade on my M56 X too . From the videos of the Stillen exhaust on Youtube I'm not really impressed by the sound, but looks like this is the only option...

For improving the sound what do you guys thing is going to be better:

Stillen Mufflers only :
http://www.stillen.com/product/exhaust/ ... 11954.html

Or full cat-back:
http://www.stillen.com/product/exhaust/ ... aqakmnhla6

Will the full cat-back create problems passing emission test ?

Any other options for getting better sound out of our cars ?

I run the full cat stillen and I like it.others say its not loud enough.I feel its perfect.sound is sporty not obnoxious and nothing like a weak civic sound...
I also had the reprogram of my transmission update yesterday and it made me love the exhaust even more.hope this helps.

Anyone stick with the stock mufflers and do just a resonator delete? Probably the most easiest way to get some sound improvement without breaking the bank!

Trying to avoid the dreaded drone at all cost!

I actually asked the dealer I bought my M37 from to perform the transmission update and they told me they only do that if there is a problem with the transmission and the engine light reads a certain code.

When I take it back from some paint work, should I demand they do the update? Or check to see if it's been done in the past? (it was used)

the update is free, I had mine done when I had my 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance back in May of this year, I asked about it and they informed that they had already did it because it was a issue with our cars. I drove it back and man, I could tell the difference.

Is there a way to tell if it's been done on my car? Is there an exact name for the software upgrade?

Do a search on here and type in ITB12-021 and you should find all the info you need and again, it's free

Since my dealership won't do it, is there any other place I can get it done? Maybe another Infiniti dealer?

I would try another dealership, did they give you a reason why they didn't do it? Umm
