Hello,I'm a proud new owner of a 2006 m35x twilight blue... beautiful car! I notice when cruising at 70mph, my rpm's read around 3,000. Is this a little high or just the way the m35x is geared? It also idles above 1,500. Just thought I would check.

Car is great other than the a/c stinks the first 10 seconds it is used and then I got some small ding in the rear bumper the first week I had it. Guess I'm unlucky. hopefully the ding can be fixed... inexpensively!

Thanks,Doug

Ms are designed to run at high RPM. See the discussion here:

Car is geared for 2,500 RPM at 60 MPH, so your numbers sound about right. Sure would give better cruising MPG fuel efficiency with a sixth gear or a taller fifth gear.

good for you, want a trophy or something? I bet if we were cruising at about 60mph and we both floored it the M would leave you in the dust. The M is just geared more aggressively.

do you want a cookie for street racing? maybe when you end up in jail like Nick Hogan and cry like a little beeotch ill smile there and have some and clap for you for being Bubbas little beeotch.

And as for you leaving me behind i pretty much doubt it. since your AWD system will take way longer for you speed up. Hey lets make a video of how fast our cars can go from 60-100mph and compare. Your car is what like 6 years newer and you will have problems catching up with me, pretty sad if you ask me. GTfo you noob.

Us with Twilight Blue M's seem to be in the minority. My M35x shifts into 5th at 120. ENJOY YOUR NEW M!

What I find odd about this is that your M idles above 1500Rpms. This is not what the closed loop idle spec is. When the car reaches operating temperature is the idle still that high?

My 2006 M35x runs at about 3000 RPM between 75 and 80 MPH. It could definitely use an extra gear for better gas mileage.

You shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about. AWD isn't always on. Basically the M works as RWD except when coming off the line and when slip is detected. Go away, troll.

at least he didn't post the Armenian coat of arms again... we get it you are Armenian. We could name call and brag all we want and still never know who is faster, and I am ok with that. What I am not ok with is jumping onto OUR board and talking trash about anything. When I jump onto another board it is for something positive.

Well buddy its called a signature which shows up once every page... So do understand that i am all over Nico and if you search back you will see that i have been lurking around the M section before you were even a member. The Armenian Coat of arms has a story behind it and if you were a bit more active all around the forum you would have understood, so thanks.

But when i know what my car could do for its age and technology i am proud of it the same way you are, but you decided to do what? Bring up the idea that you are faster which is fine since you are entitled to your opinion and i made a suggestion that we make a little video just like many users on you tube on how fast our car could go from 60-100 in an appropriate place and time so we wont hurt any one and heck have some fun while doing it, who doesn't like a little bit of competition huh?

You were disrespectful and tried to call me out and it back fired and i don't appreciate your little taste of racism or criticism what ever you want to call it towards my countries coat of arms so be nice as i am being nice here.

wow im a troll? 1. If i was going to do some trolling ide do it on the general chat area not here,2. i have been here for a year and a half and have been lurking since 05 because i used to own a 92 Q45 so i don't think im here to troll. Some Older members have seen me come through here once in a while with very positive and helpful things that i say. And as for what you are mentioning here, you are more than welcome to participate in the little fun 60-100mph test and maybe we can settle it with joy and smiles.

I have reading issues and somehow i find cars FSM entertaining and i have read an ok amount about the M35/45 awd system and the system does create an unnecessary load on your drive train. Again talk is cheap lets have some fun with this idea im down for it!

This is a very recent example of me coming through here trying to help fellow members on the . Thanks! Its a bit hurtful when im called a troll when my intentions are different!

Glad I saw your post because I was noticing the same thing about 1,000 miles into my '06 x. At just under 80mph i'm touching 3,000 RPM's and it appears this is normal if we are all experiencing this. Good luck with the new ride and I hope you love it as much as I love mine.

Yes, jumping into a thread in a forum dedicated to a car you don't own and have never owned and making disparaging remarks with no facts to back up those remarks makes you a troll.

And when winter hits Chicago with snowstorm after snowstorm an I have to drive with my 3 year old in the back...I'll be ever so thankful I got a car with AWD and a low center of gravity. I couldn't have bought a better vehicle for myself even if I spent more money.

Don't buy into this type of hate. I've seen it in other forums and I was surprised to see quite a bit of it here.

Anyway, you know what your car is capable of and leave that negativity where it's at, right there in his post.

If there is any negativity, let's focus on our cars and what Infiniti (Nissan) can do better so the next M I get is even better than this one.

I was just in Itasca and just so everyone knows ... don't EVER go to the Holiday Inn there ... OMG what a horrible trip.

Please do not take the actions of a few, whether it be childish bickering, a borderline racism speak for the majority of this group. There is a changing face of ownership of some of the older cars in the Infiniti line bringing in a younger generation of kids. As this is a very diverse group of owners we need to all put our petty differences and talk about car.

As for "racing" these cars. The M35x supposedly runs a 13.9 1/4 and a top speed of ~150. The 99 Q45 runs a 16.0 @ 89.5 mph and an estimated top speed of 140.

Seriously though cut out the name calling and racism crap guys or you will be reprimanded. Lets all just get along here and stop trying to jack this thread with name calling and petty sh*t like this.

As for the original question, I have a transmission concern that needs to be addressed on Monday with an M35x and I will be spending some time doing advanced diagnostic driving while monitoring several engine parameters . I will try to post up some of the freeze frame data from some baseline tests on a known good car.

I never meant to be "borderline racist", and I personally don't think that joking about the coat of arms make me racist. I will be the first one to say I have never even met an Armenian to have an opinion about.

As for the 60-100 MPH test, honestly I don't care about the test, whether your car can beat mine in ANY situation, it was just the tone of your first comments that got me started. Reading your later posts makes me feel like you did not mean it in the way I read it, but I hope you can see why I responded the way I did.

I was not saying that anyone in particular was going too far, we can just leave it there.

Here is some actual data from a known good car. Notice the RPMs at the top and actual speed at the bottom. This was at <.8 of 8.0% throttle opening, you can see that the CAL/LD and grms/sec are displaying the load on the engine and amount of air that the Mass Airflow Sensor is seeing.

I would be surprised if a FGY33 that was healthy couldn't get to 150 mph, but I don't know of anyone who has tried on an oopen course not what the speed limiter is set. Drag might not match the top gear ratio well an indeed limit it to 140, but I doubt it.

Anyway, which car is incrementally faster from 50 - 90 mph is really rather irrelevant. There are always faster and slower ones, noisier and quieter ones, smoother and rougher ones, etc. There are no absolutes that apply universally to each vehicle. Fuel constitution, environmental conditions, engine and transmission condition, tire size and road condition all intercede.
