Good question.......now we must wait for a response.taylor5o4 wrote:whats your rpm at 80mph
I think it's a disgrace. If you think about it, in the I35 the engine spins 3,000 RPM at 85 mph (not 80), and this is with a four-speed automatic and 17" wheels.DaleHeller wrote:I'm hitting about 3,100 RPM at 80 mph. Just checked today on the way in to work. Running the 18" wheel package. Still way to high, wish this had one more gear in transmission.
I have to agree here. It will take more than an additional gear to bring the poor MPG down to make a significant difference. Infiniti engines love gasoline.festivus wrote:While I'd like to see a lower rpm as well, I can't see it making more than a 2 mpg difference at highwy speeds. Seems to me that there are a lot of other factors that would also need to be addressed to see a meaningful improvement.
On my 2003 M45, with 245/45-18 tires, so I was probably a bit faster than the indicated 80mph, the tach was at an indicated 2900 rpm on level ground with the cruise control on.taylor5o4 wrote:whats your rpm at 80mph
Really? On the G50 it is only 2500 rpm on stock tire size (unloaded 26" diameter).szhosain wrote:

That can't possibly be correct. Look at the ratios of MPH/1K RPM.macmanks wrote:70 mph is 3000 rpm
75 mph is 3100 rpm
80 mph is 3200 rpm
2007 M35x with brand new 245/45/18 tires
Why? It's a much lighter car.exbmwdude wrote:I just rented a 2007 350Z convertible and was shocked to find that it's geared taller than my M35!
C'mon Nissan - we need that first before some 400hp 5.0 V8 sucking about 12mpg....
The Z's come with 3.50 rear ends. Was your rental automatic? My 6spd at 80 is right at 3000 rpms.exbmwdude wrote:I just rented a 2007 350Z convertible and was shocked to find that it's geared taller than my M35! It was running about 2700 at 80mph compared to 3100 for my M35. You'd think Nissan would put the 3.55 rear into the Z (and maybe they do in some of them).
Not that it needed it though. On the way to SF airport I spanked an M3 convertible hard from 0-80, and he was trying.
I wish that insane 7500rpm 306hp motor from the >07 G35 and now Z car would find its way into the M.

Seems right on to me. I "measured" 2900 rpm by eye-balling the tach and the speed. Also using 245/45-18 tires (different brand and model).M45Caliber wrote:my 2003 M45, with 245/45-18's (Yokohamas) was turning 2850 RPM at 80MPH -- speed verified dead nuts on with the Garmin stuck to the windshield tonight.

He had 4 or 5 inch pipes out the back and a pretty lumpy idle from whatever cams he installed. Skinny fronts and really wide rear BFG's. He wouldn't even look over at me at the next light. I had the transmission over in Manual, just incase - LOL.

My tinted windows are up but moonroof is open - so I can her them but they must have thought I couldn't hear them. One of the blonde babes says to her BF -- wow - that is a way cool car -- what is it? To which the clueless skateboarder says "I dunno, but it looks fast, huh?"
Rare that an old farts car gets raves from the kids -- makes an M owner proud!
Hope the grease was for your BioDiesel rig and not your veins!M45Caliber wrote:So then, I pull into the In-n-Out burger place over by ASU ....
