Right! Thanks!

I think converting to LHD makes federalization easier. Besides, why in the heck would anyone actually want (besides being able to say "look at me! my car is RHD!!!") to drive on the right over here? Everything would seem out of place. It's different when it's the norm.

That's very sexy! Good job man, so how do you plan to make it "legal" in US?Can you just replace it with your current title and call it Q45?Now you have probably every G50 owner's dream. Big thumbs up!

From the Japan Partner web site:

"Free on board" -- FOB price includes...export and customs documents, documents translation, delivery of car from yards to port and loading onto the ship. FOB price does not include car shipping cost to your port.

Then add shipping -- $2650 for a 20' container, $3750 for a 40'.

The car (2250) and shipping, and you're looking at $4900. Then you gotta hope you can get it out of the port. Getting through Customs is probably a lot easier if you own a car related business and can claim it as a race car or show car or something. The average Joe who just wants some neat-o car is going to have to jump through a lot of hoops.

No doubt. I'm sure the $4900 is just the starting point. Just out of curiosity, how did you get it through U.S. Customs, especially in The Golden State? They're sorta the grandaddy of auto regulations, aren't they?

Man.. that's real smart move I have been thinking of similar too, bringing President as a whole car just without the engine as scrape metal parts or something, then transplant everything to it.Good job!

One (ideally a business) can fill out a DOT HS-7 form to get it through customs... and then that gives you some time to go about making it compliant for use in the US if you intend to hang on to it and street register it. From there, you've got several options avl to you. Overall, knowing someone who is a CHP is *very* helpful, and VIN swaps, unfortunately, are a felony...

JDM spec, when it comes to a real imported car, is important I think

So am I to understand that this President was imported to the states for a mere $4900 minus the engine?

Did it have ECU / TCU and trans?

If so - that's a pretty amazing ride for < $20k

How many miles on the speedo?

I was going to bring in a bare bones one as well, but I want all kouki President part and that would cost me considerably more for a later model phg50.

That may be possible, but was not exactly what I meant to suggest. I don't know the person who owns the car, and have no idea how they got it here or how much it cost them. None of my business, so I wouldn't even ask. What I was trying to point out was that Presidents are available if you really want one, but it's going to cost you a chunk of change just to get it on the boat. Then, once it gets to the port your fun really begins. It's sorta like that old question that shows up on every car forum at some point or another: "Can I put a (pick an engine) into my (pick a car)?"Sure. Anything can be done. How much time/effort/money are you willing to throw at the problem?

Around 85% of G50 sold in Japan were active. They tended to think of that as the standard suspension and as the conventional one as a downgrade.

I think that most of the presidents came standard with the active, whereas here it was an option you had to BUY... might help explain that, to some degree.

the figure $4900 came from an example. not the car brought in, and it came complete with all the parts and was low mileage.

Being driven in japan, it wouldnt get too many miles unlike here in states, no where to really drive to except from work to home, and im sure minimal distance. And since these cars are for a higher market group of people, They were meant to be driven around in by a driver, so i doubt cruising was a option.

if you had more of them down there, or any at all you would be fine with the RHD scene. it's perfectly fine. I can switch between it and LHD fine without any problem, and in fact i did last year before i sold my USDM 300zx, i would switch between my JDM and my USDM ones in the same day, and would drive either of them randomly, your not out of place, everything is really close to the same, and you get used to it really quickly

Does anyone know if the president front end is direct bolt on conversion for the U.S. G50? If not what is required to fit the front end
