LT1 VS LS1

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I searched and found nothing with the title, but if there is something like this I am sorry. Anyway I am thinking of putting either an LT1 or and LS1 in my S13. What I want to know is which one you think would be better. Just to use a little bit of a threshold I am looking at putting $6000 into the motor for now and probably more later. So in your opinion which one do you think would be better?

Edited...

We don't approve of off site linking, the reason we don't have the info is people are to lazy to post it.

With the money you're looking to dump on a motor alone, the LS1 is a far better motor then any previous SBC made to date. The LT1 is a great motor, and if I had a great deal I'd snatch it up. But that doesn't change the fact that the LSx series is simply an engineering masterpiece.

ls1 > lt1 (for way more reasons than just weight)

You said to go somewhere else for the best info...it got deleted. That's policy, sorry if you don't like it. Basically the same thing isn't the same thing btw.

I'm not out to piss you off on purpose man, just enforcing the policies we already have in place. Link or no, there's no reason to visit any other site. Hell, one of our moderators has performed the LSx swap himself and we have another in the works. Any questions can be asked and answered right here.

i'm not pissed, but i was recommending he go to that site flourishing with the best knowledge on both those motors. As I would recommend others to go here for Nissan-related engines. It's a specialization thing.

anyways, just go with the LS1.

I'm new to this site but have extensive knowledge on both the LS1 and the LT1 engines. I use to own a 95 camaro with an LT1 in it before I sold it. But here is a little info. The LT1 350 iron block is a great engine it was used in the early 90's all the way up to about 97' on the camaro. Aftermarket support for the engine isn't that strong, but there are a few power adders you could get for it of course. Like you can do the LT4 conversion. The LT4 was offered in the corvette in the 90's it had a different intake manifold, cams...etc... And then there's the LS1 348 aluminum block engine. Aftermarket support for this engine is a lot stronger. And you don't have to change a lot to see decent power. A maf sensor change on that engine will get you roughly 5 horsepower, so its potential is very impressive. And the fast intake manifold is probably the best you can buy for this engine. And you will see some pretty impressive power numbers. Stock the LT1 puts down about 285 at the crank. While the LS1 puts down about 320 if it was pulled from an SS. And 305 if it was pulled from a Z28. Talking about camaros. Reason why is cause the SS has a mild list of performance adders which came from SLP and that included intake, exhaust, etc... And many will argue the benefits of the LS1 vs. the LT1 and vise-versa. But I think it all comes to preference. Just do your homework. I have knowledge of both engines and have personal experience with both engines and I like them both. But personally if it were me. I'd probably go with an LS1 for the swap. Cause of the weight savings and great heat dissipation properties of the engine being an aluminum block. As well as the strong support of various companies who specialize in the engine. like Fast, a division of Comp cams, MTI performance, SLP performance and STS (Squires Turbo Systems). Just to name a couple. Good luck with your swap bro.

I thought Aris(sp?) had an LT1 drag S14 at one point? I could be wrong though.

You might be able to do an LT1 for similiar $, but you'd have way more torque.

Part of me regrets not doing an LS1 instead of the SR in my S13. It feels so slow compared to V8's in general.

Do you have a.c.? Or does anyone else know if a.c. Is possible on a s13?

Anything is possible, it just comes down to cost issues. I beleive it also involves a big hammer to make a tad more room.

IIRC ac can be retained/ran with minimal problems on an ls1 swapped s14....not sure about the s13 though so i'll keep my mouth shut.

ain't that the truth, how come a few years ago if u put a v8 into a 240sx you were a piece of dog sh*t, now damn near every fanboy screams LSX,

which don't get me wrong is a great motor for a few reasons, but if money is no issue, the LS1 is not the fastest chevy smallblock, its just light and takes well to bolt ons... hell how can it not with decent flowing heads stock and 5.7L of displacement...

I think 95% of the people here who always scream LSx swaps cause they make more power and LSx>SBC don't even know thats wrong.......

its become like the next fad, first it was SR's, then RB's, now LS1's.........

when Aries car was first brought up on another 240 forum, I was the only person who liked it, because I always liked the idea, and everyone always thought it would weigh too much, mess up handling, or just get a camaro is what everyone else said..........

funny how people change, I dunno I guess they are just finally learning and I'm mad I got flamed for so long for liking these v8 swaps and now everyone wants one.......

I'm an old school guy myself. I've always believed in stuffing the most engine you can into the lightest platform.

The thing with the LSx series is exactly what you said. They take mods VERY well and put down incredible numbers with very few actual mods. Lighter is always better...can't really argue that fact.

But, I am like a large majority here. Small funds, a family, a house and other things are involved in my life aside from cars.

So a nice SBC with a cheap stroker kit, or even a simple 302 with a couple of T3's is all the fun I really need.

The LT1 is an excellent motor. It makes a ton of torque down low which will make for a very fun and totally reliable daily driver. With a few simple modifications, cam, hand port, headers, it'll make enough power that you'll have serious traction issues anyway.

my brother is going to put his LT-1 into his 92

I dunno if he's gonna put aftermarket heads on it right away, but he's got a comp cam for it, forged rods, forged pistons... he also wants to run like a 150 or 200 shot of juice into it..... he's building up the shortblock now

he needs to get his *** in gear

the ls1 is better in every way

if cost is an issue id get a 4.8 or 5.3 truck motor.

aparently we arent allowed to tell you the bad things about an engine so youl just have to trust me that the ls1 is the way to go.

LT-1's are about a pain in the A**. The Optispark ignition is a pain, the aftermarket is weak, just not really worth the money. If 6k is the budget, think about one of the LQx motors. The LQ4 and LQ9 are both 6.0l, weigh only 80lbs more than an LS1 (which from what I've been reading weighs less than the KD24?) And with the addition of only a few aftermarket bits can make some SERIOUS power. The best bang for the buck combo I've heard of is an LQ9 short-block, L92 heads and intake, HOT cam (gmpp) and long tube headers. With a tune, you can get well over 450hp. I've seen this steup in an 04 GTO and can honestly say that the handling wasn't noticeably affected (from the additional weight). The last time I checked ebay, the engine/trans and harness were about 3500.
