50 mph to 90 mph is where it counts for me, and the G50 does quite well thank you. In fact the lower numerical ratio second gear in the later G50 works a little better here. The higher technology LS has to make an extra shift I don't.

The 90-93 transmission is 1333 rpm per 10mph in 1st and 744 rpm per 10 mph in 2nd. 6900 rpm in 2nd is 92.8 mph in 2nd but this varies a little with tires and exact torque convertor efficiency and slip.So some might hit rev limiter at 91mph and some at 95 mph probably most at 93 mph................having the JWT redline extension to 7300 rpm means 98-97-96 or a 5 mph increase to redline or stock ecu with same tires.

Tires grow in diameter as the speed increases. Tires change diameter when worn [11/32>2/32= 2.3% on a loaded 26" which is usually 12.25" loaded radius]

Most 5 AT are geared so 3rd gear goes above 100 mph [to make sure quarter mile is completed in only 2 shifts: ~~35, 65-75, over 100 mph optimized for 30,60 and quarter mile magazine test.

If 0.1 seconds is like 10 HP, faster shifting trannies can easily overcome 20-30 HP advantage............. except at top speed!

so just to finish off this post, the old man bought a LS430. He went and drove a Q and priced it, ended up getting a fully-loaded LS430 with Levinson stereo, nav, radar cruise, everything for 54k out the door (3 year lease). This is just barely over invoice, he coudl have done a loaded Q for 49k (he's pretty well tied into the new car market folks). End of the day it wasn't even close for him, but I think he had his mind made up as he drove the Q just to shut me up. But the real killer was the depreciation on the Q is out of control, the LS is still a 35k three years from now.
