LS1 240sx Technical Questions

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Got lucky and found a guy whose motorset didn't sell on Ebay. E-mailed him and he quoted me $2300.

Same with me.... I posted a WTB on LS1.com. I got a lot of emails, but the one was local (kinda a few hours away). So I looked at the car, chcked the ODO and told him to pull it. Once it was pulled I went back with cash. I paid hmmm I cant remember I think 2400 or 2600 for the engine, and I had the trans allready. With ebay you know never if your getting the engine they say. Alot of them are very high on mileage. the car mine car from had a big *** tree branch fall on it. But no mechanical damage.

I got lucky though, I bought a 2002 LS1 only to fine out it was really an LS6

This is a bit of a general question towards the LS1 engine and transmission.

I noticed that the automatics that usually go with them are the 4L60E/4L65E and 4L80E ones. The wiki page on these say that the 60 can handle 360 ft-lbs (65 can handle 380 ft-lbs), while the 80 can 440 ft-lbs.

Do you guys know of 4L60E's handling more than 360 ftlbs? If I put an LS1 in a 240, I'll be wanting to do it as an auto so I want to know how much torque I can be putting down. If it comes down to it I may just have to find a 4L80E.

why in gods name would you make it an autotragic?

the 4l60 and 4l80 can handle way more than those numbers.

Well to answer this and respond to Kamin. An auto trans is what you want at the quarter mile. These came with 4L60E's which is the same as a 700R4 but has an electronic OD and shiftpoints. You can use any trans you want with the LS1 as long as you get a converter for the application or a flex plate apapter.

As far as horsepower you just have to get it built to handle what you want in with respect. My TH350 can take 500-600 (and its at its max build). But in the future I will be going with a built 4l60 or 700R4

When built rightThe 700R4 4l60 600-700TH400 about 800700R4 800+TH350 400-600Powerglide 1500

K thanks, I was hoping it'd be able to handle more than that. 450-500 is probably the max I'd be going for. If the 4L60 or 4L80 break with in that range, I guess I'll just have to deal with it when I get there

As for why the autotragic, it'd be my daily driver, at least for sure in the summer. I don't want to be killing my left leg. And it's just easier for everyday driving, obviously

Yeah people ask me how I drift with an auto trans.... My answer is I dont drift, I go straight. Its all about the application. I dont know much about the 4L80 is that ot of the trucks and vans? I know of the 4L65

i paid 2500 for my ls1/4l60 engine 2k2 then picked up a 2k2 t56 for 900$

i have somewhere around 6k in my car including the car and the welder i bought. Do it yourself if you have most of the tools and aren't a moron. i was worried about wiring but it's really simple, just took me a little bit to figure it out.

i don't think soo

my friend's lumina SS (here in KSA we have the holden HSV under the name of lumina) broke his 4L60 that came stock with car and his car is ONLY 470rwhp...

THIS IS NOT HIS CAR...i've posted this so you can see what i'm talking about...it's also come in 4-door sedan styel too...

so do a LS1 swap with (either) the TH400(no over drive) or 4l80...

if the car is't for drag...i say go for LS1+T56 6 speed....

hope this help..

I guess you didn't read... I said when built right, this includes valve bodies, servos, clutches, ect. Those number are estimates with heavy builds. My TH350 takes 600 horse and it was a 1200 trans when built. Stock it was good for maybe mid 300's

Yeah I was looking at the 4L80's and they are truck trans, a little beefier but I dont know what aftermarket support they have for servos and clutches. And I dont know how well they can be tuned. I would get build the 4L60e or go 700r4 built the way you want.
