Love the Beast

I saw a documentary by Eric Bana called Love the Beast. It's about his obsessive journey with his first car, a 1973 Ford XB Falcon coupe. He interviews Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno, and Dr. Phil to discuss how people can be so obsessive about cars. Dr. Phil in particular is very good at voicing some things a lot of us have thought, but few of us ever verbalize.



Bana buys the Falcon as a 15 or 16 yr old, and the car immediately becomes the "campfire" for him and his friends. Bana takes the Falcon to compete in the 1996 Targa Tasmania, a tarmac rally race. A decade later, he and his friends reunite to compete in the same race in the same car (now fully race prepped and making 600hp). Great story and a must see for any true car fanatic. And I must say, I have so much more respect for this guy knowing the he's a real car enthusiast and not just another Hollywood pretty boy...

On a scale of 1-5, I give it 5 speeds! Available on Netflix streaming...

I watched it a couple years ago, it was a fantastic movie. The Senna documentary is really, really great too if you're looking for car movies.

I was so annoyed he was in this doc. I also kept wanting him to say a quote from one of his shows: "I want you to start living as a gay woman"
Sadly he didn't deliver.

Yeah...especially sad because it's still there, unfixed. They deflected the ending to his pop's car instead so the doc kind of felt unfinished to me.

Netflix has been shoving this in my face for a while now, but I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Guess I'll give it a watch.

Eric Bana was on Top Gear talking about this movie I think.
The end doesn't feel as tight near the end as the beginning because he didn't plan to wreck his car.

Just watched it. All around great film. Not perfect, but still a very good watch. Really makes me want to go work on my race car. Maybe its time to take a drive to the machine shop to see what is taking them so long with my block.

Now I just need to figure out how to trick my wife into watching it.
