Loud noise at start-up. Will not start now. Smoked a little more than normal.

DAMN!!!! "I don’t care what anyone says" "That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard" <---WOW!! Strong words from someone looking for help. The battery replacement comment was mentioned last week and you are just now mentioning that your battery is new. Maybe you should've mentioned that early on or at least replied that it was new instead of making the comments that I quoted from you. I'll remind myself to keep my opinions to myself the next time YOU post an issue, especially since you are an aviation electrican who's attended many schools. Sorry for trying to help. Good luck my man

You know what, I am very sorry for coming off like an a**. No excuse for that. Even though I disagree with the opinion, I really am sorry.

I have a 2006 m45 that I recently bought, it has 120,000 miles on it n I recently changed the oil on it I drive the car back an forth to LA n san Diego occasionally n recently its been making this loud embarrassing knocking noise wen I start it it goes away wen I shift it in to drive or reverse n move it a lil but as soon as I stop moving n the vehicle is in drive or reverse it starts ticking again loudly, I haven't moved the car since then, could this be do to lack of oil it wastes oil like crazy, or could my valves be damagaed or my lifters have a problem to do with it ????

Ok I know this is an old thread but my 2006 M45 has done the noise clanking two times now. Oil was checked and was not low.Oil change less than 5000 miles ago. Wife went to start car this morning and it was clankin bad. She called me and drove my truck to work.Tonight I fire the car up and ran it for some time and the noisepretty much went away. Last night I started her car and drove it maybe 30 feet to park it.I'm wondering if we are having the same problems as others have had.It did quit making the horrible noises but what sounds like the valve train is a little noisey.I am going to start it in the morning and see if it makes the same noise. The car has 79000 miles on it and does use some oil. I did notice when I fired it up yesterday it smoked a little when I started it.There were actually 3 start ups and moves yesterday.
Anyone have any ideas? I am open to suggestions. If the noise is there when I start it back up I'm going to look for pullys (bearings), alternator, water pump, power steering pump (which I doubt) etc.Alls I can say is its an Gawd awful noise but it does go away. :wtf2:

If it's parked on an incline (even slight) and the oil level is even close to low, mine will make that noise when cold. When it happens, it's normally right near the 3000 mile interval anyway so I add in a few OZ of oil & change it once the 3000 mile change oil message appears.

(Just a suggestion...)
I know what low oil level looks like because one day long ago...just after I changed the oil, I scratched a line on the dipstick for where the level sits when fresh and engine was warmed and now I just compare the level after each 1000 mile increment to monitor it.

I check this car once a week as in the last 20K it has been an oil user. I change it every 5K (Mobil 1) . I started the car this morning and the noise was there but not as loud and then it all but went away. Came home tonight and fired it up, noise for few seconds and quieted down to a tick. If I didn't know better I say its either a lifter or a rocker arm. I was going to do a compression test but I'm also thinking about just taking it into a mechanic and have him figure it out. Heck I cant even find the spark plugs in this engine (I think I know but I need to do some research). I love to drive it (wifes car) but need to get it back running right so she gives me my car back.

Did a compression test today. All over the board-------Drivers side 1) 140 3) 70 5) 150 7) 150 / Passenger side 2) 180 4) 175 6) 175 8) 180 WTF :wtf2: I think I'm going to drive the car down to the boat launch, walk home , call the police, since it was stolen :-X. Seriously, looking at price of used motors (if you can find one), rebuilding it (parts are spendy) and buy a new long block (about 11K). Anyone know the difference between the M45 and M56 motor? Real close to the same price but almost 100 hp more for the M56.
