Is anyone else more confused now than before the season even started. If the smoke monster is a shapeshifter then why didn't it shape shift into anyone of the other countless characters that have died in this show? Why did it pick John specifically, Why was there a need to kill Jacob? Who is Jacob? oh and where is Jack's father's body?

As far as i know, it can only use the images of people who have died and are on the island presently but not buried. This is why the "others: always came back for their dead so they could not be used against them.

It picked john because that was the loophole the mib (man in black/smoke monster/fake locke) stated to jacob hundreds of years past when they saw the black rock approaching on the beach...also it picked john because he is the current leader of the "others" and they have to do as he says.

Jacob and the smoke monster are like two sides of a coin...one is good/one is evil. he has to have jacob die in order for him to achieve whatever it is he is trying to achieve and from what he said, he is just trying to go home.

and they showed jacks fathers body, remember...jack found the coffin in season 1 i believe..but then it disappeared...i'm assuming the smoke monster moved it somewhere so he could continue to use it.

I watch lost, but if I know someone doesnt, i wont even bring it up. i understand how ridiculous the story is, I can laugh at it, doesnt mean I'm not entertained by the ridiculousness.

(BTW i jsut watched the premier, nothing really new or exciting, <shrug> )

that's probably why tito...cause hulu will rule your life...i love hulu...i don't even watch tv anymore...i just go on hulu.

When lost first came out, i really didn't watch it..and i didn't understand what the big deal was until i actually sat down and watched it....yes it's just more questions after questions but it's highly entertaining especially on hulu because you don't have to wait a week for another episode...they have all the previous seasons onilne to watch at once which makes it very enjoyable and easy to follow.

well, we don't know where home is yet....i'm assuming it's ancient egypt.

Richard doesn't age because of jacob, he gave him the ability to not age or be immortal, don't know which one.
