This is a rare opportunity for the Democratic Party. They can enjoy decades of power if they avoid pulling the pendulum too far to the left. If they push through their entire agenda over the next few years, the public will disapprove and reward the GOP with seats in the House and Senate, or worse (for them), the white house in 2012.
The possibility of gridlock makes me want to weep tears of joy.
Obama is under pressure now to end hunger, war, poverty, and disease. His promises were HUGE and so are the expectations. He probably won't squander his legacy by letting California nutballs like Nancy Pelosi hijack his agenda.
The frothing-at-the-mouth angry Democrats on the far left should move to the background, tread carefully, and follow the president's lead. No more marching in the streets, no more insulting middle America (Barack is from Illinois after all, the state I grew up in), no more referring to everyone they dislike as Hitler.
Its time to grow up and get some work done. With the more moderate Clintons mostly out of the picture, I wonder if they remember how.
