Went and picked up the car from the Infiniti dealer Saturday. They ran diagnostics and keep coming back as low voltage. Checked the alternator and that's all good. Loaded tested the battery and it was junk. They replaced the battery as well as the battery in the key fob. The keys did not need to be reprogrammed, so I guess that's why the car wouldn't start because the battery in the key fob was dead in addition to the car battery being junk. He said next time if that ever happens to use the key fob to push down the start button and that should create enough continuity between the car and the key to start it up. Hope it never comes to that. I wish my car just came with the additional physical key slot. Faxing over my bill from Infiniti to the dealer I bought the car from. Will see how reputable this dealer turns out to be.
Now that I think I'll be keeping the car I'm going to get some quotes on the Infiniti extended warranty. I know its going to be a little higher priced being a 2011 with 65k, but with all the electronics in these cars I think I want that peace of mind. I have until May to decide since the cars build date was 05/10.
This just sounds like a dead battery and FOB. i do not think there are any other underlying issues. if that was the original OEM battery you made it pretty far. i just changed mine probably 4 months ago on my 2011 and it wasnt completely dead yet but failing tests.
What the dealer told you to do was correct. they replaced the key fob reader in the Ms with touching it against the start button instead of a dedicated slot down by the driverside door. if you look in the manual the procedure to start the car with a dead FOB is detailed in there.
Extended warranty is going to be expensive and probably not worth it. was Infiniti able to pull your service history? im at 84k right now and no issues whatsoever. these are pretty reliable cars.
