indeed. 944 clutch is something i had to save up for. they are not that difficult to work on at all...just different from most other cars. the engine bay is no more cramped than most cars either. they get a bad rap as being "impossible to work on" simply because the few people who work on them properly charge out the ***. but they can, so they do. wouldn't you? do the work yourself (so long as its not your only car) and you'll be fine. FSM books are 250-300 bucks though.

Since there are Porsche nuts in this thread, I will have to ask, what is the V8 Porsche from the 80's that had a body style like the 924's 944's etc?

928. badass 5.0L V8. (the one scarface bought.) it was their lux cruiser. the later years are better investments, as updates came regularly throught the 928's life and it evolved nicely. thats a basic breakdown. more to come, i'm sure!

ps - it came about in the late 70's, 78 i think, and ran into the mid 80s.

Awesome, I heard/saw one at Sonic last summer and thought it was very cool, I'd heard there was a V8 Porsche but that was the first one I'd seen. Thanks Stutt!

Yeah, 928's are awesome. $120 will get you a rear muffler bypass, and they sound mean as hell with it! Kind of a mix between Ford and Chevy v8s. It sounds similar to a Vette. Early 80's 928 Euros are a great buy since they still had around 260-288hp (can't quite remember off the top of my head) but, could be had for $5-7k needing a little maintenance. Although, the sad thing is that it is way too easy to find 928's auto, and hard as hell to find a manual one. Check out this 928 sound Rear Muffler Bypass

A guy right down the street has one I think his is the newer 5.2 or 5.4 version, not sure about stick/auto.

Made the mistake of talking more with my dad about project ideas and he suggested a 6 cylinder build up...it's definitely doable, the thing is I am betting the RB25DET is going to be even harder to source parts stateside than the 2.5L Porsche motor.

I am thinking 1997/1998 SE manual, do that KA24DET (throw on a turbo basically) and be done with it.

I am guessing 250HP should be possible, maybe 300HP (? drivable).

What I noticed is it appears the stock ECU can handle the fuel with the proper regulator, injectors, and pump. That's sort of nice. I have been researching a junkyard T3 setup (lots of yards here in S. Florida) so the would be cool, I could take the electronics savings and do something nicer than a Starion type IC...

I really want to get into a car I am not going to outgrow so easily...and not see all over the place. I am thinking under $20k I can build a sweet sweet street car (I was figuring the RB25DET build will add $10k to a KA24DET build easily if I went that route...plus more than likely I'd have to accept 2-3 months of downtime minimum).

At least this car board is cool, the Porsche and Corvette boards I have been on were cool, the Saturn board is a bunch of d!cks all talking about mods and noone doing them. The Ford boards are ok if you have a Mustang or Police cruiser, doing the Bronco build up is a lesson in "WHY DON'T YOU JUST BUY A MUSTANG?"...like one of those will two a 3 ton boat :).

I am hoping you guys aren't pegging me a troll / typical noob saying he is going to buy a 240sx and have a 9sec magazine cover car in 3 months :)...if I do buy the Nissan I can assure you I will be back regularly with mod problems or completions.

mod problems or completions are always welcome.

there are some very interesting and powerful variants of the front-engined porsches of the 80s/early 90s. dont rule anything out. an evil eye s14 can look pretty mean as well. best of luck to you.
