IMO, there's tons you should do before turboing your motor. Upgrading your suspension, brakes, wheels and tires before adding more power isn't ricey. It's a safety precaution, homie. This old a$$ car desparately needs a stiffer suspension/chassis, stronger brakes and wider/grippier tires to safely handle any big increases in power. Ppl who tell you to mod your motor first before these things are the true ricers and they don't know what the hell they're talking about.
basically

unless your going for drag the engine is the first and last thing, i say first because from day 1 that you pick up your 240 you need to make it reliable and always perform, no modding just making it function perfectly, there is no substitiution for a well maintained engine, next you should focus on the suspension if you drifting autox etc.. the suspension is so often overlooked and its very important to making the car handle predictably like you need it to, in addition to replacing those old bushings and or replacing with pillowball and adjustability, its not the part thats important its the adjustability, the correct alignment is really important and is really noticible when driving. braking is also important cause you dont wanna go fast and not stop haha that should be with or even before susupension. wheels and grip before turbo

IMO people shouldnt upgrade there engine when driving until they know how to drive there underpowered car because there is plenty of drivers who only get 130-150 lbs to the wheel who destroy pretty hard, and in the end your a better driver for it
its really hard to pick what you want/need the most when building on a budget. nearly every aspect of this car will most likely be upgraded at some point. realistically the turbo motor wont be done for quite some time. that gives me some time for some other upgrades. the first on the list is probably a 5 speed swap. a new clutch, flywheel will be installed before the transmission's put in to save me the hassle of dropping the transmission again. or 2 way limited slip. i havent looked in to any brake upgrades...at all. the prices scare me :ohno:. i would LOVE to have a nice big brake upgrade like endless, brembo, willwood etc but i just dont see that happening any time soon. ill probably cheap out and get something like a z32 brake "kit". not really sure where thats at on the list though. coilovers are pretty high on the list of things to get. most likely before wheels and all that good stuff. suspension is also one of those areas that makes me cringe because of prices. s*** can get ridiculous. i was thinking of getting something thats not too pricey but still nice. something like the 32 way adjustable megan racing coilovers. also havent looked into too many different coilovers because i know little to nothing about them and whats decent. i was just going to get them because my brother seems to be happy with them. any recommendations?? as far as driving experience goes i completely understand what you're saying. im 18 and my experience is laughable at best. this local guy at car meets would show up in a n/a z32 and would lead a pack of turbo'd 240's z's. my ka that's in my car has just been completely been rebuilt. so when i get the new tank in im going to drive the piss out of her. so HOPEFULLY by the time the turbo motors done ill be able to do it some justice.

if anyone finds non-vented widebody fenders that arent 50,70mm post em up!

I'd go for the Powered By Max coilovers with the 8kg / 6kg spring rates.

lol i just read this and i thought id chime in again. when you do the 5 speed, dont skimp on the clutch, i did, and its haunting me, it heats up and starts slipping so i got to let it cool down, not cool when you wanna drift. and for brakes you dont have to buy those crazy brakes man, go to your local pick and pull and get some j30 or q45 brakes and rotors, throw them over the fence and they are free :dblthumb: or z32 which is what i have and that is plenty, the right pad selection and boo ya brakes, with some good ss lines maybe, never have to replace them. it really depends on the end all goal for the car what coilovers you get, they are expensive so dont cheap out and get something that you think might work, save and get something you will be truely satisfied with, in order of coilovers that i would probably get, PBM/stance gr+, tein super drifts, tein HE (what i have) / KTS (SPL coilovers), megan tracks / megan streets (only difference is the spring rate)

my suspension so far is all ebay, that godspeed design knockoff junk, and its not horrible, hasnt dissatisfied me yet!

i say that the tension rods, rucas, toe rods, traction rods are good to run if you not DUMMY SLAMMED, but a pretty lowness they can handle just fine

the front LCAS id get s14's with s13 ball joints or the roll center adjusters, and the rear i would do the same for the lca's, bushings also play a key roll in suspension so get rid of them every opportunity you can with pillowball! and replace the ones you cant (steering rack, rear upright, sway bar bracket) with hard poly

I bleieve Q45 and J30 brakes are the same but the Z32's are much bigger. They're all a good upgrade though. Just depends on how far you plan on taking your build....

as far as the motor goes it will be pretty mild. probably a t3/t4 with stock internals. this is my daily so im not looking for anything too crazy. im looking for reliability more than anything. i'll probably go with whatever i find first. are the na z32 brakes the same as the tt's?

yes and no

they provide the same stopping power but the early tts are iron and all na's are aluminum, the na's are 28mm rotors and the tt are 30mm rotors so they are a bit wider than the na brakes, it comes into play when your trying to fit wheels around those bad boys

the definitive 300zx brake swap has all the info you could probably ask about the swap

they also require conversion lines so you might as well factor in 60 bucks for ss lines right away and get it done with lol

z32 would be ideal but you cant beat free q45 or j30 upgrades in the meantime, they are good, just got to use a much better pad with those and you get a great amount of stopping power

also brake MC is a good change 15/16 from a s14 or 1" from a z32 or 1 1/16 from an auto z32 are all good upgrades if your upgrading the brakes

thanks for all the info. i like how you assume im going to steal some brakes :rotflmao . i dont even know how junkyards work. you just go back there with tools for however long you want? are they really that dumb?? i probably wont be stealing an entire brake set. if they dont watch you though i can guarantee that i'll be coming back with something interesting for free :chuckle: .
