Hi... I have a 2006 G35 6MT with Sport tuned suspension... Rear tire size is 245/40/19 and front is 225/40/19... I am at 18k miles on the original OEM Bridgestone Potenza tires and the rear tires need to be replaced soon... The fronts still have a few thousand miles left on them... I've been reading reviews and reading posts here and elsewhere... What tire brand might anyone here recommend??? My leaning, from what I've read so far, is to the Yokahama ADVAN... I've also heard a lot of folks talking about TOYO... Thoughts??? What kind of tire wear/miles might I expect out of these tire brands???

I am interested in tires that are quiet and perhaps ones that wear better than the Bridgestones...

This is the first time I've ever had a car that ran high performance tires... Why do tires that cost nearly $300 per tire get half the mileage I was used to getting on my former cars (3 honda preludes)??? I knew about the tire cost and mileage when I bought the G35 and admittedly it almost stopped me from buying the car but I still liked the car better than any other I looked at (and they stopped making preludes years ago)... So it's not a shock to me that I've seen the poor tire wear (I consider 18k as poor for any tire in my book)... But I am curious... Why do these expensive, high performance tires wear out so fast??? I never peel out and most of my driving is on the freeway at 70+... But still only 18k out of set of rear tires...

So what tires would you recommend??? And why the rapid wear??

thanks... bob...

They wear so fast because high performance tires have a softer rubber compound to perform better (soft rubber make em sticky).

Dear Diito:

Please check out this website for great tire deals. http://www.tiredeals4less.com/index.cfm

If regular tires were used in your G-35 Coupe, you will have plenty of stories of people wrapping themselves around telephone poles, under a dump truck, or on bridge pillars. Be very very glad and grateful that Infiniti is saving our lives with the type of tires on the G-35 Coupe, which you are complaining about. Tires and brakes, are everything on the G-35 Coupe----don't mess with both by trying skimp on quality.

Btw, I had the same tires as you have on your car---Bridgstone Potenza RE00050A. I am surprised you drove very gently, and you are barely getting 18K on it. I still haven't figured out why people babay their G-35 Coupe. Well, frankly, I flogged my car from day one and I was able to get 20K on my rear tires, while my front tires were good to go for another 10K. In fact my rear tires are still relatively good, such that I decided to keep all my tires at home as replacement, in case I lost one of my new Toyo tires to a nail or some road hazard. As for my front tires, I could easily sell both of them for $100 - $150, as they still have a lot of life and thread in them.

So, you know, the Bridgestone Potenza RE00050A, is a terrible tire considering the price. I think they are only good as spare tires---horrible in the rain and starightline take-off.

Currently, I now have a Toyo Proxes T1R. These tires are everything you desire in a tire. It is so good in the rain as it is on dry ground---can't tell a difference. On straight line take-off, It stays in place like a magnet---the car does not shimmy or try to fish tail. And then on bends and curves, after it has worn in, it literally sticks to the road like a reptile. I am extremely pleased with the performance of these tires---I feel extremely safe with them. So, give Toyo's a try. When you buy a Toyo, give it about 7 days to wear in before you start experiencing the miracles of its intuitive behavior.

I live in Canada, and TireDeals4Less don't seem to be "able to ship to Canada" (how difficult can it be?)

Where else are Toyo's available from that I could order online?

I would go with Nitto 555, I have them, they last very long, and I had them on an eclipse, BMM 325 and now G35......I will continue to use them on every vehicle I own. !

Here is my post on tires

zerothread?id=307229

Lots of opinions but I'm very happy with my Bridgestones. I believe one of the problems with the coupes is that you cannot rotate tires front to rear. I'm not sure about side to side. The service advisor at my dealer did tell me that the reason I got the 47k miles with still a few thousand miles left was because I rotated my tires every 7500 miles. He advised me to do it every 6k on the new ones and predicted even better mileage. He also told me that many customers that only rotated tires every 15k miles expereinced much greater wear and many only got 20k miles out of a set of tires.I do mostly highway driving with a 100mi round trip commute per day and I don't race. Longevity and handling is most important to me. Road noise doesn't matter either because with Howard Stern cranked up I don't hear any road noise.

BTW how ofter do you check your tire pressure and do you use a good quality pressure gauge? Do not rely on gas station pressure guages.

I've got an 05 G35 Sedan with sports tuned sus. 30K miles and the original GY eagles are about shot 235/45/18.

Toyo's T1R reviews have been super but $960 installed. Also looking at Michelin pilot sport and Yokohama AVID W4S What are you guys running on your sedans?

I got a set of Michelin® Pilot® Sport A/S Plus 45k warranty. Very nice tires, they handle great and run smooth and quite.

Replaced my Toyo's with Yokohama S-drives.

Love the Yoko's too. The toyo's went up in price...so I went with my local discount tire for a better deal.

I'm considering the BFG G-Force Sport. Decent price. Not sure about noise - looks like they are quieter that the G Force KDW. The sedan calls for 215/55 R 17's. I may get 225/50 R 17's. They'll be about .5 inch shorter so it will throw the speedo off by 1 MPH at 65 - actual speed will be 64 MPH. Staying with the same aspect ratio, diff size - 235/50 R 17 - not sure I want to go that wide on the stock wheels... can can get a much better deal on 225/50.

I have Avids on my wife's 05 Sedan and daughter's 00 Max. Have been very pleased so far!!! Great traction in wet/dry. Wearing great. And, they did very well in the snow for my daughter in the NC mountains last winter.
