New owner of an infiniti and I have fallen in love. She needs a new high pressure hose for a power steering leak. I am also looking for after market parts to make her even more pretty. Any advice out there. I am new to this club thing and I am slowly figuring it out. That would be a 94' infiniti J30:confused:

There are very few J30 specific aftermarket parts, but for OEM replacements http://www.infinitipartsusa.com is a good place to go. As far as modifications go I'd suggest some nice rims. They can do a lot for a car. Also install a set of Sylvania Silverstar headlights. I have them in my G20 and they are much brighter and look way better than stock.

Joe from infiniti of scottsdale is the best out there, hands down... he's by far the best guy to work with!!! My shipment always arrives BEFORE he says it will!! :D

As far as aftermarket stuff, there isnt a ton... Stillen is gonna be your best bet.... OTher than that, the engine and suspension components are the same as the Z cars.... YOu might be able to find some stuff there.... You can search around for more insights, there have been talks of turbo kits and 5sp trannies!!

You could also do the angel eyes.. Those look golden... I cant remember who did those.....

For the power steering hose, locate the leak, remove the hose, and go to a place listed in the Yellow Pages as servicing hydraulic equipment. They will make a new one on the spot, probably with new ends, that will be an exact replacement. Replace it, drain the system (if its not drained already) fill with Mobil 1 ATF, and you are done at a reasonable cost.

The J30 has that effect on people. I "liked" cars before I bought my J but the J really turned me on to understanding what makes them tick. This site is a treasure trove of information.

You are approaching the "timing belt procedure" based upon your mileage. Perhaps your J had the older non kevlar timing belt. Find out if this has been changed ASAP as those ones are to be replaced at 60k while the newer ones R&Red at 105k. This should be your primary focus for the time being. Educate yourself on it and your VG30DE will purr for another 100k miles. Ignore it and you will be looking for a new ride.

The transmission is also something that should be paid some attention. Draw up a maintenace triage chart for the major systems and get them in good order.

These cars are sweet. They remind me of a cat somehow. Purrs and has claws.

Welcome to the club.

I didn't know the Mobil 1 (or any brand) automatic tranmission fluid (ATF) could be used instead of power steering fluid to fill the power steering cup. Please clarify. Thanks.

That's it. Mobil1 ATF makes an excellent PS fluid for the Q45.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought it'd be a better idea to just pump this one w/ more questions...

I need a few parts and am wondering if you guys bought them before and how much they cost you. Carlos points out on his site that it only cost him 30 cents for the AC illumination bulbs. But my local Infinity wants to charge $1.75 EACH (parts sites suggested in this forum don't have them as options online).

I need:Rear backup light lense + housing (Dealer $20.40; autopartspeople.com $9.90)Rear side maker lamp bulb (Dealer $6.34; autopartspeople.com $2.26)AC illumination bulb (Dealer $1.75; autopartspeople.com none; Carlos' dealer $.30)Headlight relay (Dealer $40.72; autopartspeople.com none; Carlos' suggestion $30 or so)

While autopartspeople.com is cheaper, they do charge a lot for shipping such small items! Carlos, if you are reading this, can you give me your dealer's # so maybe I can order from them?

Forget the sites. Try calling them. They should have access to the same parts your dealership has. They're dealerships too.Scottsdale is 1-888-216-5328.

Its the first time you heard it because its incorrect. The J does not share anything with the Z except maybe the super HICAS.

Scchu, I ordered the bulbs from Infiniti of Scottsdale, aka http://www.everythinginfiniti.com

You won't find those bulbs on their website. Just call the toll-free #. I'd combine the purchase with some other goodies. Shipping charge won't be less than $5-6 so it makes sense to buy other stuff (oil filters, etc.)

Fabulous. Thanks! And that's what I will do.

Anything else I should be changing/replacing at around 102k miles? I might as well get that from them. Someone mentioned somewhere that timing belt should be changed at 105k or so?

On a slightly different note, can someone post a pic of where I need to be looking at to remove the headlight relay unit on my J30? I read Carlos' instructions, looked under the hood and got confused. I am a visual guy... must see a pic...

Did you see the illustration on page 2 of the .pdf? There's a gray arrow showing you the location of it.

I'll try to take a picture with my digital camera but you should be able to find it without it. It's in the engine comparment, somewhat hidden inside the quarter panel (near the top, not underneath fender). Look in the area near the brake fluid reservoir (driver side), near the hood struts. It's along the top of the quarter panel, about a 1-2 feet from the firewall.

It's a gray-looking box about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

I went back and had another look under the hood and did find the "cigarett pack". My god, how did you guys get to the box!? You mentioned removing a few of the things around it to get them out of the way, but even those screws were impossible to get to because of their weird positions (and very hard to unscrew). Because of that, I dropped and lost a screw bit in there somewhere.

Anyway.. I'll prob just buy the unit and have a pro do it... Arrggh... so frustrating.... It sucks to know you can DIY but still can't do the job...

In any case, thanks for all the great info!
