It depends. What do you want? Are you trying to drift? Do you want mid-range power and driveability? Or more high-end? Do you have a power goal in mind?
Although it's a self-plug , David's^ post isn't a bad idea since a GTiR T28 is a fairly inexpensive solution that can produce a good amount of power (300+). It's journal bearing, so the response won't be as good as a Garrett GT-series, but it can also be rebuilt if need be (where a ball bearing turbo can't). It'll lag more than an S14 T28, but the top-end is much better. You'll need to modify it to fit on your SR; you need to clock the turbine housing, and then do some cutting/welding modifications to the compressor housing. However, a better solution for you would be to swap the comp housing and backing plate from your S14 T28 onto it, and then you wouldn't need to cut or weld. The comp housing swap should give you a little more power and response, as well.
A Garrett GT28-series will cost you more than a GTiR, but will have better spool and mid-range. Peak power capabilities will be a little better than the GTiR turbo, as well.
And with either option, you shouldn't run any more than stock boost unless you want to blow something up. Not until you can afford fuel injectors, Z32 MAF, and a tune.
