Hey all,

I'm having difficulty locating the tachometer sensor under the engine bay of my 93 240sx.

I keep getting replies like "yellow and red wire beside the ECU of the passenger kick panel" but i'm trying to find it under the hood.

Thanks for the help!

There is no sensor, the ECU sends the signal to the tachometer.

The ECU reads engine speed from either the cam angle sensor/distributor, or the crank position sensor.

I hope this is just a troll. otherwise, facepalm.

the tach sensor is actually in the back, connected to the muffler bearings. it counts the bearing revolutions and divides by 4 (4 cylinders) to get your RPM, as long as it doesnt go OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND

well if it does go over NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND that's after VTAK kicks in and then the sensor that's under the headlight fluid resevoir measures RPM then.

Ian also has resemblance to ryan reynolds...

anyways, this was a useless post as the question has already been answered. i figured i'd join in.

Thanks for the help guys!

I'm actually trying to put a car starter in and I can't find the tach sensor. The one of the ECU is not giving a signal.

Do you know which wiring comes off the distributor?

Check the Factory service Manual.

If you are looking for a tachometer style signal, you could also use one of the wires for the coil.

Im not a fan of auto starts, so I dont know much about them.

i just did a ka24de swap in my 89 coupe with HUD. and i cant get the tach or speedo to work. the hud lights up a 0. i connected the matching wires for the cluster that came off of the ecu harness. and it got the temp, battery, and oil working but thats it.
