Hey guys, doing a bushing overhaul ES Master and pineapple subframe, and wanted to know if anyone's experimented with using either Liquid nitrogen or dry ice to either remove the old bushings, but more importantly to insert the new ones. I've read of putting them in your freezer, but at best your talking -22 F, where I'll be using -330 F Nit and -110 F ice. Also thinking about doing the same for the rear ball joints (89 sentra). I figured it'd be easier and a lot more cleaner than burning them out. If anyone has had some experience. I'm a researcher at a university and this stuff comes cheap $0.50 Nit per liter and $0.30 .lb ice. so easy to come by and I have use of the approved containers for them.

Also any advice on removing rusted subframe bolts, other than Kroil, PB, WD-40, or using Coca-Cola? Looking for other options/alternatives, thanks.

Either way I'll do a write-up for it to show how it goes...

i'm sondering if the dry ice would have any adverse effect on the new bushings, weakening them and drastically cutting down their life. i could very well be wrong, but it's just something that comes to mind.

as far as the old ones, i'd just burn them, them lay some fresh paint on the entire sub frame. when i get around to doing mine that's what i'm going to do.

Just get yourself a press. The cold will do no good getting them out, and as for putting them back in, dropping polyurethane to that temperature could cause it to become brittle and crack. The bushings don't fit, no matter how cold you get them they are not going to fit. If anything, freezing them that cold will make them harder to work with as they will loose the small amount of give they have, and become hard as rocks.

Just heat the arms a little, push out the bushings, cut out the races, and lube everything up, and press the new ones in.
