anybody know where i can get a light weight flywheel, or one that will fit off of another motor, such as ka, or sr? i just finished all the mods to fit the ca tranny in, and dont want to use the stock stuff again, since i am going to be uprgarding quite a bit in the near future. thanks.

install an SR flywheel and clutch, or do like I did and have the stock one cut down a few pounds.

My next project would be a 300zx tranny, SR clutch, and maybe some stronger halfshafts.

You say put the SR flywheel on the CA, but use a KA clutch on a CA? Wouldn't it be better to use a SR clutch and flywheel... ?

I guess my only real question is which fits better, KA clutch or SR clutch, on a CA?

I just remember someone saying that a lot of the nissan trannys were the same...isn't the 300zx tranny a lot better than ours?...seems like a great idea to me..if it needs some adapter or something..you should fabricate it and sell it Paul..and sign me up for the first one..i had crappy trannys-

paul, did you ever consider getting a fidanza flywheel? 7 pounds or 9 pounds......... can't remember, but it can be had for about 400 dollars.

btw, my 91 ka24de will crush all ca18dets!

there's no such thing as a ka24te! but hey, at least we have torque, more than those hondaboys will ever have! just this weekend i smoked a GSR by 12 car lengths. By the time i hit 4th gear, he was done!

my intake and exhaust help a lot. Swift Drift, good to hear you support the KA too! we're a rare breed!

why swap out a bigger engine for a puny 1.8? people these days!

the 91-94 KA clutch is a stock replacement, but the SR clutch and flywheel would be an upgrade due to the fact that they are bigger in diameter. Also a KA flywheel WILL NOT swap onto the CA crank.

I think I'm gonna swap my CA bellhousing onto the 300zx Tranny (that's all it takes) and stick an SR clutch and flywheel onto it. ACT clutch and either a Fidenza or JUN flywheel.

I KNOW the KA tranny, SR tranny (any year), and RB20 and RB25 tranny's all fit the CA when you use the CA bellhousing. I can't imagine the 300zx one being any different.

hope that helps a little,

does it have to be a rwd sr20 flywheel to fit? will it bolt right on, or am i gonna have to fudge it? anybody know if an s15 6 speed would bolt up. i have that in my future plans. mostly just so i can say i have a 72 datsun 510 with a ca18det and a s15 silvia 6 speed transmission.

S15 tranny works, but it's not as strong as the S14SR tranny.

Also the FWD uses a different clutch than the RWD SR, so I assume the flywheel is different too.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the FWD and RWD flywheels are different, atleast for the SR.

Hi guys, i'm new to the board but not new to the CA18DET scene, i have had a CA18DET powered car for about two years now, and just have a question about something in this thread>>

i am very curious to how the SR20 clutch works in the CA18det, what is needed fro the swap and how hard is it, i am guessing that the spline os the same count and that the flywheel etc will bolt up to the crank, someone please shed some light on this subject, i am sooooo very intrested..

I really hope that i don't go out and buy the clutch and it doesn't bolt up so easy as you say... i'll do a check on a scrap yard clutch and see what's the deal

Ok, well after discussing this with Paul, the RWD SR flywheel has the same bolt pattern onto the crank, same ammount of teeth and roughly the same size. However, I have not yet seen this setup in action. I HAVE talked to a guy who has the RHD silvia in the states, and he was telling me that the twin disk clutch (tilton i believe) for the FWD sr20det WILL work and run and do whatever you want it to do on the CA. :) I recently just replaced my 8-puck (came with the motor) for a 4-puck. Stock Pressure Plate-can we say chatter from he!!. WHY? Well it is the cheapest available until I can get some decent $$ to get the Fidanza SR fltywheel and the Spec Stage 3 disk/pressure plate for the SR. I am also waiting to see if somebody does the RWD SR setup. ;)

if the flywheel is a bigger diameter, wont that muck up the starter?

no because it has the same number of teeth, the starter ring on the flywheel is recessed so it's the same diameter.

I figured everybody could benefit from me posting on this thread and reading it again, since it covers lots of transmission type stuff. I wanted to know which transmission gasket I should use on my DET, since I want to take it off and check out my clutch. Would it be from the CA18DE or CA18ET? Just a minor thing, but gets major when you try to put the tranny back on and realize you don't know. Thanks.

If you have a CA18DET, then the CA18DE gaskets work the same!

Interesting thread....

Sounds like the SR20DET flywheel and clutch combination might be the way to go. Can anyone recommend a decent uprated non-jap SR20 clutch and does anybody else make an SR aluminium flywheel other than Fidanza ?

It would be the cheapest flywheel option if it does. I know that some japaneese manufactureres make one for our motor, but they've GOT to more expensive than the SR one. Hmmmmm We'll see what more money brings...

I tried it... didn't work for me. Someone else tried it. Didn't work for them either (search for old threads on SR clutch fitment). It bolts up, and appears to clear everything fine, but WAIT! Try and bolt that tranny up to it, and DAMN IT stupid bellhousing doesn't clear it. By quite a bit. I suppose you could grind down your bellhousing, but I just went and got a performance CA clutch and stock flywheel combo:)

Oh and if you're wondering I have discussed this with Paul, and actually used HIS SR clutch and flywheel combo to try it out. It seems he was mistaken at the time this thread was started two years ago!
