im in the middle of ordering the last few parts for my 5 speed swap. i just got in a peak performance red transmission mount. the question is . what would be a good motor mount set to ride on that will be stiffer then stock but good for a daily driver very part time track car .im thinking about trying out the jgs polyurethane mounts. does anyone have any suggestions. keep in mind im not trying to spend over 150. for s set .

EDIT: im kinda trying to get opinions on the different motor mounts available for the 240sx. im torn on what set would be best for what im looking for.

I would say go with the Nismo ones but that may go a little over budget depending on where you shop.

they are a little bit more pricey then i wanted to spend. and i have heard they are only slightly better then the stock mounts. i have no experience with the nismos so i cant honestly say if i would like them or not. ill keep them in mind. does anyone have any experience with the jgs tools mounts? or any of the polyurethane mounts on ebay?

peak performance red transmission mount is good. i have the black one and love it.

you can also find new nismo mounts on ebay if you look for about 120. and then if you want a little stiffer than that. fill the hole with can gasket maker and let dry for a week. even stiffer weld strapping on the driverside front of the mount.

thats the thing i dont like about the nismo is that they are still hollow like the oem mounts. but im sure they would be just fine for what im looking to do. hopefully not to soft.

The ebay poly mounts seem to be alot like the motor mounts that greg designed and he gave them a good review. and they are below 90 bucks which is a high point for me.

the last are the jgs mounts. i like them the best but havent gotten any sort of review on them yet. :/

EDIT: BTW moulton712. how is the black pp mount compared to the stock mount? i was going to get one but went with the red .

You shouldn't use the nismo motor mounts. See the transmission mount is urethane which is very stiff and stops most movement of the transmission, whereas nismo engine mounts are soft enough to allow the engine to twist a fair amount (visible).

With such a setup you have the transmission sitting virtually still while the engine tries to twist. Not good because these 2 units must twist together - they're bolted as one by the bellhousing

OTOH, if your engine mounts are stiffer than transmission mount there's no problem

that makes sense. i guess having a solid trans mount and softer motor mounts just makes more stress on the trans mount. i guess that gets rid of nismos on my list. any suggestion on a good set to match the red peak performance trans mount?

Someone on here mentioned the Project Nissan mounts in another thread. I'm most likely going with those.

I already have the red peak performance installed on my car.

Forget all those go with Hockey Pucks that's what i have in my car and i love them. it cost me something like 25 bux but i had enough pucks and hardware for 3 cars.

The Nismo ones are perfect for DD, spirited driving, what have you. If you're trying to get every last hp/trq to the road with sacrafice to comfort, then solid is the way to go.

Regardless of your trans mount, being it solid, high durometer rubber, or urethane, you'd be fine with having Nismo engine mounts. The Sr's don't twist as much as a V configuration motor would so you'd be alright.

Not to mention, you're not making anywhere near the horsepower/torque to worry about that aspec of driveline torsional forces.

im sure they will be okay, the goal for the car when all is said and done is 300whp/300 tq. i just dont know if they will be stiff enough just because they are hollow and designed much the same as the oem .

im getting alot of good feedback on the nismos. might have to go with them after all. i really want poly mounts though hmm.

btw i have and will be installing fidanza flywheel, aluminum driveshaft, b@m shifter, and altima e fans. i already have a vlsd. i dont know if the lightened drivetrain makes a difference on the mounts i should get.

EDIT: should have made this a poll to see what nicos preference on the subject was

listen just go with the hockey pucks plus it lowers your motor so your center of gravity is a little better also.

DONT GET HOCKY PUCKS, just to let u know nismos make the engines sit a lot higher so if u have a sr with a strut bar u =no no..also nismos will eventually wear down...

What is wrong with hockeypuck mounts mrgrape? Im just trying to get the pros and cons of each different type of mount before I make my decision.

Im seeing a lot more different mounts then I thought .

And yeah I have hear about nismos raising the engine up. That's one thing I didn't like about them. That and the design being hollow like the oem ones leaving them prone to wear . :[

That's not completely right.

If you're going for a super stiff set up, like metal spacer, you want there to be flex in either the engine or the transmission. Not both and not either.

Do a google search on hockey puck motor mounts alot of people with different platforms have bin using it with great success, hell the hot rodders used hockey puck motor mounts on their cars with no problem's what so ever, i have had mine in the car for 5 years now and they still hold up like the day i first installed them. here is the link to build them. http://www.driftopia.com/2007/...ounts/

Cusco mounts with the peak performance transmission mount.

it's what i run. very stiff, but no slop either.

put up with a little vibration and you lose that weight shift from the engine and transmission moving around during hard driving.

O my... Cheap mounts are made cheap. dont get them.Solid mount = too much vibration IMONismo mounts are oem style but made wit a much stronger material. They are 30% to 40% stiffer than the stock mounts.

and the hockey pucks are stiffer than the nismo mounts they drop the motor lower than the nismo mounts their stronger than the nismo mounts and they cost a s*** load less than the nismo mounts, so what are you telling me? i mean seriously have you used the hockey puck mounts? or got neg feedback from someone that has used them if so please show me proof or proof of them failing from anywhere on any forum you want. yes they cost a crap load less but seriously if i added a well known company name and charged 200 bux for them would they be any better?, the r&d that went into making a hockey puck probably cost more in testing and research, hell motor mounts change all the time some company is trying to improve on them or change the design to make money.

i have liked the jgy mounts but havent really had anyone give me a decent review on them yet. im astill waiting for someone hopefully lol.

Bumnah. the cusco mounts seem like a good route. but a little out of my price range. looks like the project silvia mounts are the same design? maybe just as good?

thanks for all the input so far guys. im getting alot of good suggestions and a large list of mounts to research. kep them coming

EDIt: BTW throw some pros and cons of what you are using it will aid in my decision
