And a ton of other so-called "sports cars" can't run in the 14's bone stock either.

Namely old Mustangs for one, and a number of other cars.

Unless you of course don't consider the pre-351 Mustangs to be well ... sports cars. Less we not forget that most Fox's can't even break 14's.

Thats what it is-

An Affordable Luxury Coupe (or Fastback for you S13 guys). So you guys are all wrong!

It's just a sportyish car. But deep inside we all think of it as our personal little sports car.

Are you sure about the chicks, because every chick who sat in my s13 liked the car + car's image + my driving skills. very pleasing when most college chicks say: "You drive like a fkng maniac." I love nissans.

It’s a sports "touring" car for all intents and purposes. Comfortable, stylish, great handling, two doors. There are expensive sports cars and inexpensive sports cars, but price doesn’t determine if it is truly a sports car or not. What it lacks in the engine department it more than makes up for in handling. So yes I would call it a sports car, not a fast one but a sports car none the less. And unfortunately you would be hard pressed to find anything like it in today’s automotive market. Then again I'm also bias because I own one.

I voted for sports car. Now granted it may not have the power/speed usually affiliated with a sports car, but it does have many characteristics of one. I think of it as an entry level sports car. It is 2 a door, rwd, and has a useless backseat, and handles pretty good. I think all it needed was a V6 and most of you who don't consider it one, would then see it as a sports car.

BTW, but IMO I don't consider EVO's/STI's sports cars. They may be fast and handle very well and have super good skid pads and 1/4 times, but like someone said they have 4 doors and a useable trunk. I consider them in their own niche.

I agree.. EVO's and STI's are more of rally cars than per say a sports car. Their original design was as a rally car for the most part (I think).

F1 car = race carFormula Ford = race car

Porsche Carrera = sports car with tiny back seat and 2 doors.240sx= sports car with tiny back seat and two doors

Notice that in each instance the second car is low on power. But still has the handling. Since a Formual Ford is still be considered a race car then a 240sx is definatly a sports car.

Read it. Id say the 240 fits under the sports car category. All insurance companies rate it as a sports car along with most 2 doors.

Someone mentioned Lambos, they are exotics, along with Mclaren F1, Zondas and what not. Supercars as well, anything with over 500 horse is considered a supercar. The magic number you might say.

A supercar or an exotic is above any sport car.

The 240 is a sports car, built for the driver, we can all agree on that. Rear wheel drive, Two door's, the rear seats dont matter, Porshes have back seats. Good handeling, ok power, but mostly fun to drive. T

The word sport refers to play, I play with my 240 all the time....

"Building on a rich racing heritage that spans nearly three decades, Nissan has introduced the refreshed 1997 240SX sports car, featuring updated styling and a new luxury edition (LE) model."

Taken straight from a Nissan Site, http://www.nissannews.com/site...shtml

In 1997, the 300zx was gone and I think the 240sx was the only RWD car in their lineup I could be wrong but nothing comes to mind off the top of my head (besides trucks of course).

The Silvia and 180SX in Japan would definetly be a sports car. So I would say the 240sx would be a sports car, especially if it has the sr or the ca in it. Plus the car class that it is catorigized in for the US seems to be because of its power. If it had the same power that it got in Japan and the rest of the world I don't think there would be much of a debate of it being a sports car.

All in all it is a sports coupe/car.

i'll second that. Or just drop a 6 or 8 cyl. into your 240sx and call it a muscle car

So, if you give a 240 a RB26, and get it to over 500hp it's a supercar...sounds like a plan!

I think that it is a sports car, yet only less so because of the engine. It's like sextuplets...the Silvia, 180Sx, and (European) 200SX's are the athletic children of the S chasis whilest the 240's got the short end of the stick lol

They are all Identical except for a few external cosmetic differences.

So your basically saying because of the engine it's not a sports car...TRUINE...

Having been stuffed into the back seat of a 300Z with 2 other people I can clearly state that those are USELESS back seats ... According to most insurance companies the 240 is a sports car, but then it's all up to personal opinion. But let me ask this isn't a Sports coupe the same thing as a sports car?

although the backseats are useless atleast its there when u need it. i like that i mean hey the driver is ever gonna sit there lol.

if you guys say the 240 isn't a sports car is the S15 a sports car? i mean it does look pretty sporty with the lines and body.

a car doesnt really need to be rwd or have a lot of hp to be a sports car but it does need a sleek body usually 2 doors and manual transmission

s15 would be comparable (not in pricing because we all know nissan doesnt charge too much for their cars) to the integra, eclipse, fto, prelude, celica, mr2, 300Z, skyline gts, rx7 and other cars. i mean the stock US 240s dont look sporty at all. when i look at the s14 it just looks like a 2 door camry with an altima body. when i see a jdm s13/14/15 whatever it just looks so different. ask a girl theyll know. the girls that dress nice have good taste so you can ask what they think lol.

i'd say the us 240 without the aero doesnt really look sporty but id still consider it as a sports car.

.

That's like saying this isn't a race car by any means because it has a 4 cylinder in it.

I don't know...there's something that just tells you sports car: Examples mr2 (including mrs), rx7, supra, 300zx, elise, etc...

and something that tells you sports compact:ITR, civic r, s13/s14/s15 (in all variants), celica, gtir, prelude, eclipse, etc. BTW I don't consider FWD sports car by any means...the basis of the whole thing was because it was cheaper to build.

and there's sports sedan:evo, impreza, skyline sedan, etc...

perhaps the mr2 and miata are a weird niche, but I think it tends towards sports car more than sport compact. Perhaps just like the s2000 and z3/4, because they are roadster and thus sports cars? roadster=sports car?

Also...some may not agree, but turbo just feels dirty in a sports car. There's few cars that can use it under the name of "sports car" and they tend to have a wide track and often are more than 4 cylinders.
