Not true at all, iv been using windows all my life. The first week it was hard but after that i fell in love.
Beancooker wrote:But you don't have right click, which is bulls**t.
All macs have right click. What made you think they dont?
Beancooker wrote:The worst part, is if you don't like say the processor, video card, sound card, etc... you can't take out hardware and install new. No upgrades.
What made you think this? On my i book g3 i had everything replaced. my sisters boyfriend did it for me.
Beancooker wrote: Macs do get viruses. You're a fool if you believe otherwise. But the fact that 95% of all viruses are designed for PCs and not Macs make it seem like they don't get them. You're still vulnerable. I can send you one if you don't believe me.
Iv never had problems with viruses. When i first started using macs i wanted to make sure i didnt get any. So i asked everyone i knew that have been using them forever. They told me not to even worry about it, i would be wasting my money if i bought a virus protection. The people at mac tech told me the same thing.

You should try mac for once.

No. They don't. Macs have command click. Which is retarded and useless. Most macs don't even come with 2 button mice STILL to this day. Command click is USELESS. The whole point of the mouse is to be NOT the keyboard. Having to use both to perform a simple function is stupid. Mice have come with two buttons for a very long time. My logitech mouse has SEVEN buttons. A new mac comes with a mouse that has ONE button. And no scroll wheel. Capital Fail.

Judging by the specific and accurate nature of bean's claims, I'd say he has, and didn't like it. Hence the reason he said he doesn't like them.

I've owned Macs. They sat unused, in favor of PCs. I see no reason to ever buy a Mac when I can do more with a PC for less money. If Mac had some stranglehold on a special critical part of the market, I might understand the need for one. But all they have a stranglehold on now are trendy yuppies. I don't buy computers to be trendy. I buy computers to use the hell out of them.

Shouldn't have to - it's there for that reason. Stop being a Mac fanboy.

My favorite computer quote of all time was from my computer teacher in 4th grade. We had been using the old Apple's forever, and our school finally decided to get Dell's. My computer teacher's response:

"What on earth am I going to do with 2 mouse buttons?! This is going to take forever to learn..."

I have used Macs before. The want to add more memory, you use apple. hard drive, apple. Hell have they come so far as to let you use a different video card? I'm guessing you can upgrade your video card, to another apple card. That to me means they are worthless.

You can't copy and paste without using the keyboard. That means your mose is worthless IMHO.

You have never had a virus? I can send you one...

Look, we just have a difference of opinion. I will stop communicating before I ever use another Apple product. The only thing made by Apple that is in my house is my iPod. I used a Zune for two years, and love it. However my car came with the iPod interface, and it was too conviwnant not to buy one.

Don't get me started on iTunez.

Everything I feel about Apple, Maddox already said.

bro i dont want to sound like a ***. but you can copy and paste with the mouse. it works just like a regular old mouse. all you have to do is set the right click button under settings. because if you dont the right click will work just like the left click lol.

what are your opinions on i tunes. why dont you like it. i wont argue with you i just want your opinion.

It renamed a lot of my music. It will only sync with "My Music" which I don't want it to sync with. I want it to sync with the folder that I specify. It is a PITA to upload music that doesn't have a license. Itunez8 makes it easier, but it's still not as simple as Zune. I don't like a product trying to "nanny" my "sharing" music. It's not like I have a lot of "shared" music, but the few songs that I have, are not available for purchace.

Glad they finally made it so you can copy and paste. To me, Mac is like an olive. You taste it, and don't like it, you try it again, and it still leaves a bad taste. You don't try it after that, because no matter what the difference in the olive, it still has the same type of taste.

Plus, I build my own PC's. I build them cheap and get incredible preformance out of them. That is not an option which I don't like.

zerothread?id=314042

Can you upgrade to a video card of your chioce, or is it limited to Apple cards?

Do you have to buy a card that is specific to Mac only, or can you just plug any card into an express slot?

After a search, I answered my own question. You can run Nvidia and ATI, but only certain models that are made for Mac. You can't just pick which one fits your budget.

You can't overclock a Mac. Well you can, but not for a gain that is worth the risk, and good luck in finding a heatsink that fits. See, when Apple opens up and makes themselves compatable with the rest of the computing world, I will take another look at them. Until they open themselves to broader horizons, I'll stick with PC's.

Touch sensitive is NOT acceptable either. What does Apple have against a physical button that offers some tactile feedback? I DO NOT want a one-button "with touch sensitive right click" mouse. I want A MOUSE. A REAL MOUSE. That's A MOUSE. I want to plug in my $100 so-awesome-it'll-make-your-pants-disappear Logitech G9. But I can't.

If you haven't overclocked it, you don't need it.

You would probably have a difficult time finding one to fit your motherboard.

If you have a laptop, it's not really even an option.

Something must be incorrect, or it is displaying in ºF, not ºC. If you were at 135ºC, (275ºF) your processor would have died already.

None the less, I'll look and see what I can find for you. What processor do you have. Or better yet, what socket does the Mac use? 775, AM2... That is the first question we need to answer. Then we can look for a heatsink.

Download CPUz. I don't know if it will run or not. If so, it will give you deatiled info, like what socket your proc is using. From there we can find if they make a heatsink that is compatable with your mobo.

I think this reworked version of CPUz might work for a mac. http://netkas.org/?p=72

Post up the screenshot after you install and run it.

I am guessing that you have a socket 775, but I am not sure. It's zero hour here at work, so I'll look into this a little more when I get home. Probably around 5 or 6 pm.

So I googled iBook G3. It is a laptop, correct?

If it is a laptop, there will not be an aftermarket heatsink available, at least not one that I can find.

If it's a desktop, then there may be hope.

So I just thought of something that could have a huge effect on your cooling.

Go to the local computer supplier. Not Best Buy, but somewhere that actually sells components. Get a tube of Arctic Silver thermal conductive compound. Should cost between $5 and $7.

You'll have to open up the computer, and take off the heatsink. Take some rubbing alcohol, and clean the base of the heatsink until it's perfectly clean. Clean the top of the processor until it's perfectly clean also.

Take some Arctic Silver, and put a thin layer (about the thickness of a few sheets of paper) on the proc. Smear it around and make it even.

Do the same to the base of the heatsink.

You don't want to use too much, and if you do, it will ooze out and make a mess. You don't want to use too little either, because it won't make good thermal conductivity.

Reattach the heatsink. Be very careful that you don't damage the motherboard when attaching the heatsink.

If your sisters B/F didn't use a thermal compound, then your temps will be elevated. If he did, then this might help. If he re-used the compound that was left on the proc and heatsink, then your temps could be extremely elevated, since there are probably small air pockets between the proc and heatsink.

This is the best idea I have, if it's a laptop. Like I said in my last post, if it's a desktop, there may be other options.

Outdated is a bit of a stretch, considering that Macs were the first home computers with multi-core CPUs, the first home computers with 64-bit CPUs, the first home computers with a 64-bit OS...

And fancy cases certainly aren't a unique Mac feature. When was the last time you were at a (PC) LAN party? See much neon or plexiglass?

Certianly not outdated, just not as user friendly and upgradeable like a PC is. It's all modern components rolled into an eye appealing package - if you wanted to, you could get the same fancy case for your PC.

Crap, I typed out a long reply, and lost it....

You have an LGA 775 socket. Since you have a 775, there are a lot of options available, depending on how the computer is cased.

Do you have the computer "in the monitor", or a separate tower?

Depending on which that is, you will have different options on what will fit.

I have a stock Intel cooler that you can have for free, you just have to pay shipping. It's nothing special at all, but if yours is dead, this will be better.

Does the fan on the heatsink spin? If the fan has died, then that will explain all your problems. Take a look and see if it is spinning. If it's not, check to make sure it is plugged in. If it is plugged in, and not spinning, then the solution is easy. I'll just send you the stock Intel one that I have.

This is overkill, but is the best air cooler made at this point in time. It keeps the CPU as cool as a water cooler will. That's why I put it in my PC. If you ever plan on overclocking, this is definitely a good choice, if it will fit.http://www.xoxide.com/thermalr...pping

This is small, and should do the job. It will cool a little bit better than a stock cooler, but it's nothing special.http://www.newegg.com/Product/...03050

Which ever cooler that you need, you should spent the few extra dollars and get a tube of Arctic Silver thermal compound (about $6). It's twice as much as the cheap stuff, but will help to drop the temp by a degree or three.

So let me know what type of case you have and we'll figure this out.

Well crap. After looking at the Apple website, i see that the iMac desktop is the computer in a monitor setup.

If you have the LCD screen there isn't a cooler that I have seen for a 775, that will fit. It looks like it will have to be an Apple replacement part. I would check to make sure that the fan is spinning, and that the fins aren't clogged up with dust.

If the fan is spinning, and the fins are clean, get some thermal compound, and follow my instructions on how to do that.

Sorry bro. These are the reasons that I get frustrated with Apple.

im going to do that. i think that program i downloaded is wrong, i checked out the temps on two different acccounts. For the computer being on all day the temps are between 55 and 65. on the other account the temps are between 135 and 155. my computer feels a little warm at top. but i think its heat the fans are decipating out of the computer. my computer seems to be running a little slow and when i type it is slow also.

Take a look at some of the spyware scan tools. I know that "Macs don't get spyware", but that is something I would look at if it's slowing down.

How much memory are you running?

More is always better.
