LOOK AT MY REAR END.
MY REAR END IS AMAZING.

From this kit:

Reminds me of a classic Jag rear end.

That's an awesome looking kit. My nephews are getting older and more patient now. I will have to start buying them LEGOs for birthdays, mainly with the intent for me to build with Legos.

How much was that kit? The prices for the licensed stuff is getting outrageous.

This one was $120. There was a fully R/C 4x4 for $200.

It was a tough choice for me between the car and the Shuttle set. Same price. The Shuttle set celebrates something I love, but it's largely static and classic bricks. I'm more fond of Technic stuff with mechanicals. This thing has a V8 engine, differential, four-wheel IRS, and functional steering. It even has a power-retractable spoiler. You can't really see them well in the pictures in the first post, but this thing even has CV joints for the rear halfshafts.

The Shuttle:

Also, the alternate model for the sports car:
Image
Power-operated suicide doors and roof. Just like a Phantom Drophead. :chuckle:
Needs a bigger blower.
You can see the cool steerable IRS front end setup pretty well on this one. Inboard shocks and tie rods.
Tire diameter is almost 3 inches (68.8mm). Ginormous.

That thing is SWEET! Was it a kit? Or from scratch?

Had I not discovered my insane obsession with cars, I would likely still play with legos like every day. I have a HUGE bucket of them so when I have kids they will be set.

Legos are why I am the way I am now. Every car looks like a Lego kit to me. If all my projects were done and I had the room, I would still play with Legos.

Yeah but legos won't let you build a 4-foot tall working ferris-wheel or life-size guitar (without a lot of them).\]

Legos are amazing. I was the kid that wouldn't walk away from my table until I was completely finished with the kit I was working on (unless it was a massive kit). I guess I was just excited to play with it once I completed it. :gotme

Would about yall? Did yall want to finish building it right then and there or space it out?

I saw that kit Chris. I was contemplating whether I want the sports car or the VW bus:

In summer 2010, I taught a robotics class to middle school kids as part of a summer program. We used those NXT kits. The kids loved the class, but I think I liked the robots more than they did. Showed a few video clips including this one of Asimo finding a path around obstacles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dv0wJDwtuw Pretty freakin cool if you ask me...

Mindstorms are EXPENSIVE! But amazing. I've seen Mindstorms control modules and software integrated into all sorts of amazing stuff, not all of it lego.
hannibal wrote:I saw that kit Chris. I was contemplating whether I want the sports car or the VW bus:
I checked out the bus and really liked it, but passed on it for the same reason as the shuttle. Can't pass up the opportunity to own another V8, and this one doesn't even drink gas!
I LOVE that the bus's windshields hinge upward like the real van's did.

300ZXttZMAN wrote:Would about yall? Did yall want to finish building it right then and there or space it out?
Usually I will finish in one go. One of the things I love about legos is both the build AND the end result are equally rewarding.
This time, though, I spread it out. It's got 3 instruction books spanning 223 pages. There's a LOT to it. I've spent a couple hours a day after work for the past 3 days working on it and I'm just about finished.

I got the first gen RCX Mindstorm back in the day. It blew my tiny mind.
I still have it sitting next to my desk, but I don't play with it anymore.

I would almost always finish what I was building in a single sitting, but that was only a small portion of the fun.
MinisterofDOOM wrote: One of the things I love about legos is both the build AND the end result are equally rewarding.
The build is fun, the end result is fun, but my favorite part of Legos was breaking down a finished kit and modifying it. Adding in pieces from other kits, or integrating its parts into other builds. I can't leave anything stock.

The car's almost finished, but I'm missing two piceces from the set. Fortunately Lego's website has an awesome "missing part report" tool and the two small axle pieces are on the way. Unfortunately, the very small assembly those axle pieces pin together is central to all the side bodywork on both sides of the car, so right now it's functional but skeletal-looking.

Image

Now I get to wait a week for the tiny things to arrive.
