had some extra money on my GameStop card, so as a spur-of-the-moment kinda thing, I bought Left 4 Dead.

.....it's whatever.

just like everyone is saying, it's fun, fast-paced, zombie-killing madness.. but the fun only lasts for so long. especially if the game can be beaten in a couple hours.. as this one can, and was.

it has waaay too much of an arcade-like feeling. it's a little TOO fast-paced.. never really gives you any time to build any anxiety/fear while playing. it's more of a run-and-gun kinda game.

graphics SUCK. pop-in items and bland textures EVERYWHERE. was kinda funny because I actually walked cautiously into a dark room and got scared by a plant in a vase that just popped in out of nowhere. LOL

one thing I like about it is that there are different types of zombies, like Hunters (they pounce on you), or the dreaded Witch (hate that bisch lol), or the one guy that sucks you in with his toungue.. forgot what his name is haha.

IMHO, in NO way is this game worth 60 bones, unless you're one of those every-Valve-game-is-FTMFW groupies (which I know some of you are) or if you're a gotta-have-every-360-game-that's-not-on-PS3 guy (again, some of you are). it would be a pretty good downloadable game I guess...lol. this game could have been SOO much better for the time they spent making it.. the end product seems like they just threw it together in a couple months.

overall, I'd give this game a 6.7/10.

ive found the most fun comes when you are playing split screen online, one person with you, and 2 online. MY friend and i just got done with a couple hour session and had a blast. I actually love how fast paced it is, i love the crap ton of zombies it throws at you, and the game can get VERY hard at times.

It should have been a free source mod, not a $60 Xbox 360 game.

You know, it's funny you say that. I'm a HUGE Valve fan for many many reasons and have been for nearly 10 years. But I have NO interest in Left 4 Dead.

it's fun....but doesn't have that great a replay factor.

I'm guessing a sequel will be much better.

especially if it can compete with Halo on Legendary in difficulty....

god the hunters pissed me off so much.

4 ****in' plasmas and they still come!

It sounds like you are talking about the Console version.

I bought the PC version and I have a very different experience.

No problems with the LOD i.e.: Plants popping up out of no where. Turn the settings to max and it looks like a decent quality title (it does slightly show the age of the modular Source engine though).

I played through on the medium setting; I found all four campaigns to be short and fun.

If you are looking for a single player game; move along. This is not for you.

This is a game where you get 3 other friends, you turn the setting to the hardest difficulty and you try to work together and survive. That's where this game becomes fun. Versus mode is also fun. 8 people in one game, 4 survivors, 4 special zombies. The zombie players try to stop the survivors, once they do, the teams switch and now the other team tries to get further.

That is a lot of fun.

What I am eager for is the SDK to be released so the mod community and myself can start making some fun stuff. One member of the community has already made a mall, some people are working on an interesting spin of smash TV.

Another cool thing about this is the AI controller. It is called "The Director"; basically if the action dies down, the ai throws other things at you, set's up random traps and NPC placement. Its made that way so that everytime you run through the game, its a new experience. NPC placement is NEVER the same. Pretty cool stuff.

If you like online play, challenging team based FPS; this is a good game.

It is monotonous in that you are killing HORDES of zombies; but what did you really expect? It's a zombie game...

Now the real fun is going to be on the PC side, where the game is mod-able and players can make changes to it. Then you can open yourself up to new weapons, scenarios, levels, game types.

I'd give it a 7.5/10 and say:

Overall, good game even though the scope is rather limited. Still fun as all get out!

That's the big problem for me. All my friends are wusses and play everything on easy difficulty. I'm pretty good at PC FPSs so I'd be bored out of my mind playing this with most of my "easy mode" friends. I'd want to play on the hardest setting before long, and they'd still be whining about easy. And coop games are only really fun with friends...I can't stand playing them with random people I don't know. So that HUGE aspect of the game is killed for me thanks to my wusstastic friends.

Whaaaat?? I can't believe you guys didn't like this game.

Maybe the Demo doesn't have multiplay. Or maybe you're expecting a scare single player game like FEAR.

If you're wanting a single player game then you'll be disappointed. Any FPS that requires a team you can't control is NOT made for single player. Any (modern) game with no story line is NOT made for single player.

I have been playing it on my friends XBox. Probably ranks up with CS in terms of fun.

We only play VS mode (Humans VS Zombies). I think theres a multiplay co-op mode... but who would want to play 4 real humans vs all ai zombies? Even on super hard, that's like "How can we make the easy lame mode MORE easy and lame?" ANYWAYS back to VS Mode: If you get a team of zombies that work together, it's pretty damn hard to survive as humans.Smoker pulls a teammate, everyone runs after them. Boomsteps out and slimes them all. Then in the midst of the horde, hunters attack. It's pretty intense online. You can't jut run through and play it solo. You HAVE to help your teammates. Even if that puts you in very dangerous position.

Then you got your final battle. Tons of zombies coming, then you got special zombies (players) spawning instantly. Everyone works together until the rescue arrives then it's a free for all to get to the rescue. This is fun for the zombies and humans. Zombies have to catch and pick out the weakest humans or the ones who are far enough from the team.Humans have to make sure they don't steer too far behind or too far ahead of the rest or they're an obvious target. They also have to constantly watch their back and smash the normal zombies away so they dont slow them down. Pretty intense.

The graphics are not the best, sometimes items do appear out of the thin air. But this is Xbox hardware's fault, not the game. Left4Dead is based off the latest version of the Source engine, so the graphics are fine.

People care too much about graphics these days. Everyone cries when the game doesn't make your fps drop to 10 when theres an explosion. Even the people that make the games focus too much on polygon count and ****. I am more of a competitive gamer then a gamer out to watch a movie or be in some epic battle. I'm out to kill other people and get more points. Not to stare at a wall and be like "holy **** those bricks have pot holes in them!" /rant about graphics

The only complaint about the XBox version (besides its on XBox and I have to use a controller and XBox Live) is that theres no 4 screen split mode. Four of us had a 'kill zombies/get drunk' night at my place last weekend. It only lets two people play from the same XBox. We all wanted to work as a team and see if we could survive 100% on VS.

We were going to buy it for PC last night. We decided to wait until one of us finishes upgrading his PC. We know if we play it on PC it will make us hate it on Xbox. So we're gonna keep xboxing it until he can play it on PC.

Sounds like PC version > XBOX. I have a satellite internet and can't play Xbox live or any kind of online gaming. I LOVE THIS GAME.

The one thing that bothers me is that I can't play as the zombies. you have to play VS mode for that, and I can't play and kind of VS mode.

It has all the replayability in the world though, every time I turn it on I try fro a new achievement. I've got over 27,000 kills toward zombie genocide, how about you guys?

I'm really a big fan of this game. I really love the online multiplayer. Also there is an update that just came out today, might make it more fun for anyone that has it.

It also is free...which is a bonus:

Also if anyone wants to play hit me up, we can kick some a$$ together - i don't mind playing on any level of difficulty, and the gf occasionaly joins me to mess things up...but i will yell at her to keep up :-)

bleh everyone of you who gave this a bad rep say the same thing my friend said in the beginning who is now obsessed with the game and same thing I MYSELF ALSO SAID... You have to get online and play versus mode. I, myself, compete on gamebattles with some friends... Maybe it's because I'm a competitive gamer... The game wasn't advertised as a strategy game but that's exactly what it is.. The game is 98% about who has the better strategy. If you join pub games or play by yourself, you will never experience how this game is meant to be played. The campaigns are basically for getting a feel for the game. It'll take you at least a month to even start to really become good enough to have valid strategies, so I can see why some people down the replay value, but it's because they haven't given it enough time... This game definitely gets

If some of you want some tips for versus and maybe some actual help with it, add me on XBL and let me know you're from NICO.

It is annoying at times, but the biggest part that got to me was the weapons and no 1st person aim mode for other guns...

GAH!

and if you wanna do it right, you need to play with a bunch of people you don't like. lol.

You all kinda venture out spread away from each other, but have to regroup to make it to the end.

....or not. you can still win with only one person limping mercifully back to the safe house.
