yeah Harold is doing another half with me next month. Then I'm onto another full marathon in October. Hoping to break 4:15

1:45 is a good time to shoot for the half, you should have no problem hitting that.

Harold would probably dust me if he was running this one.

Shoot, he'll probably dust me anyday.

Hows the swimming training going?
I'm teaching a 4 year old to swim. Its bringing back a lot of memories.
My mother was a very strong competitive swimmer from when she was 14 until a little after I was born.
I remembered her using something like this to help her with arm power when she swam.
Image

She'd isolate her kicking and would work on strength exercises using only her arms to pull herself through the water. Occasionally she'd use one of these two tools in conjunction with the foot buoy.

Image
Image

Every once in a while she'd band her ankles and only use her arms with no aids, too.

Woman was a beast in the water.
She expected us nothing less of us. Unfortunately my brothers and I didn't share her likeness for comeptitive swimming, but we are all very strong and very good swimmers. No fear of any water- rough, deep, or being surrounded by it here!
Its kinda funny to see how bad some people swim here in New England. But then again, they didn't swim everyday in the pools or oceans when they were growing up like I did in Florida.

I think all kids should learn how to swim. Katrina doesn't swim real well but she swims well enough to not drown. I had hoped to get her in the pool when she was just a few weeks old but she had so many ear infections, they told me to keep her out of the water, that it would make it worse. Dar and Saraya are both great swimmers.

I still can't understand the concept of not being able to swim. Treading water, doggy paddle, and breaststroke are as natural as walking. Human bodies DO NOT SINK, not even dead ones. Swimming isn't a skill, it's a natural property.

I went through swimming lessons as a kid. Hated them.
I did tons of swimming merit badges as a Boy Scout. Didn't enjoy them.
I can swim well enough. I certainly won't win any races, though.

Main thing is: I HATE the water. Hate it. I hate feeling wet. Hate the feeling of water on my head. I am not a fish. I do not have fins. I will stay on land.

Some sort of claustrophobia keeps a lot of people out of the water, too. Being underwater is pretty isolating, so I can understand.

Despite all the ear infections I had as a kid, my parents pushed me to swim a lot. I used these wax plugs we got from the sports doc to keep the really nasty stuff out, so it worked out... maybe the doc just didn't know about them?

Swimming is fun.
We used to have competitions with my cousins to see who could lay down at the bottom of the pool the longest.

Well they were a pain in the ear (lol) to wear since you had to basically douche your ears every time they went in and you can't go underwater very far without them failing, so it wasn't a totally foolproof solution.

I am jonesing for the ocean for at least a whole year now. I miss the salt water goodness that seems to cure everything...

I honestly hate swimming in the ocean. Seaweed and jellyfish brushing up against me creep me out. :couch: I love walking the beach though, the sun, the surf, the views. Damn, we need to live closer to the coast.

So go into a saltwater pool. But ocean water is really good for skin in general.

Yeah. Bleed them with your fists like the btich they are.

Seriously, my buddy here says you have to clear them at a shop using the special computer tool or just disconnect the battery for an hour or so and make sure to discharge the system by briefly touching the two battery clamps after disconnecting them.

I kinda like the ocean, but away from the northeast. In NJ, in addition to the seaweed, jellyfish and medical waste (which NYC dumps a few miles offshore), you can't see your feet in 6" deep water. But off the coast of Costa Rica, or just about any caribbean island, where you can see about 30' down, it's awesome.
