Afternoon guys!

I need some opinions... I'm thinking about dumping my Momo racing buckets and 5-point harnesses out of the Miata for stock seats. One reason being that they're a pain in the arse to get out of and two being they're not practical for passengers. Is this a bit silly though? Should I just deal with them for the sake of them being more racing friendly?

I've got a few guys willing to trade me stock seats + cash, so i'm trying to decide if I should or not.

Why not just swap in some stock seats and keep the racing seats for when you go to an event? Seats aren't that hard to remove or install, and it's not like you don't have a place to keep them...

I guess that would be the more logical thing to do. Because if I ever need them, good racing seats aren't exactly cheap.

Plus I really don't feel like a stock set of seats are a fair trade, even with $100-200 kicked in. These seats were like $500 a piece new.

Yeah, not a good trade at all. Stock seats can be had for much less than $100 alone.

I was in Florida for almost a week recently and Got to experience the base model Versa first hand.

Interior space-wise it was pretty decent, trunk a bit larger than it looks type of thing. Looks pretty good for the econobox it is.
Comfortable for an econobox, front aux on radio was nice, A/C works fine, ... The little things bothered my wife. So lets see how the features of a newer Versa stack up to a base and power model of 1989 S13's that I currently own(Feature specific to my cars current states).

Versa vs. Base S13 Hatch vs. Power S13 Coupe.

Power Steering Yes - Yes - Yes
A motor Yes, adequate - Yes, 2 motors in the garage for it too - Yes, also it is adequate.
Transmission CVT Auto, hilarious attempt to transfer power to the area that traction matters - 5Speed - Heavy a** planetary slug box.
Radio with aux in Yes - Yes - Nope, put it in my mazda.
Lighted Glove box Nope, sucks at night - yes - yes, switch broke and its always on like a little night light.
Mirrors in the visors nope - yep - yep
Auto mirrors yes - nope - yerp
Auto seatbelts no - no - yerp
sunroof no - moonroof - power sunroof
Stable over 70? No, and sometimes felt I was kayaking - yes - yes

I do not want.
Definitely not well suited to my driving style. Would make a great city bus if it were larger.

For me it would depend on how comfy the Momo's are. Also, I liked the head rest speakers in my stock Miata seats.

Track seats are not always required for track use, and are not usually as comfortable for street use as stock seats. But before you pull the trigger, you should first make sure you fit comfortably in the car with stock seats. I would advise test sitting in a similar gen zoom zoom with stock seats to make sure.

And if you do buy stock seats, buy used. They're plentiful and cheap.

That said, if you do replace with stock, and you have the storage space plus those race seats fit you, I wouldn't sell them off so quickly. if If the racing bug does eventually bite you and you begin doing enough track events where you might want to upgrade to race seats, then you'll probably pay more to buy new race seats than what you will have sold the old ones for.

FWIW, I do a bunch of track days every year (hpde's) with my Z, which is primarily a track toy and it still has heated leather stock seats and ordinary 3 point belts.

It does get used on the street, but not much. The only significant street miles I put on it are the annual trips to Carlisle. The suspension is completely stock. In fact the only mod I've ever done to it is brakes.

What kind of tires are you running on it? I will be looking at buying some tires in the near future for my Z.

I'm currently running Continental DW (not DWS). I like 'em. I've had other street tires that feel a little grippier when cold, but these communicate well and are wearing better than any other set I've had . The only downside to them is that they're summer tires, so they're not good when temps dip below 40f.

Joel I agree with you on the seats. I think I'm just going to hold on to the racing seats for now and hunt for a good deal on stock seats. They're not horrible to ride in for now and they're too nice if seats to let go of cheap. Once I find some stock seats I'll just package the racing seats up and stick then in the attic until I need them.

I actually patched up a couple of tears in them last night and it came out pretty good.

I also came into some extra cash unexpectedly last night so it looks like the Miata is getting some more parts sooner than expected. I picked up a new center console last night, then I'm going to order a top and the rest of the stuff to do the timing belt.

Then all that's really left is get a trunk lid, fix a few dings, and paint it. I'll probably put those things off until late next year though.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Chris, If you find that the stock seats are too high for you, ask Greg about doing a foam-ec-tomy. It makes them SO much better.

Yeah he told me about it before I bought the Miata. That was one of the main reasons I changed my mind about owning one.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Morning everyone. Just saw Anchorman 2 yesterday. If you liked the first one, you will LOVE the second. No spoilers coming from me, but Brick Tamlin is still 'da man.

Choosing between a piece of rum cake shaped yule log or getting on the treadmill. :ohno:
