I know the "rules" and "laws" very well as I have had quite a few cars from across the pond.

And tell my buddy that had his R33 Motorex car snatched up and impounded....Legal plates, registration, the whole nine....gone and never to be seen again. It happens all the time, and Skylines are the ones they target becasue the Feds are fanbois and the only JDM car they know of are Skylines.

We are going to have a good time on sunday

So an R34 is illegal, unless somehow redone as a kit or show/track car, right?

I have someone trying to insure one.... :couch:

Lou, I'm going to get myself in trouble in the near future... Depending on what response I get from a dude on CL.

I believe R34 is illegal no matter what. It cannot be imported into the U.S., even as a purpose-built track car (or kit car), because the R34 was never sold here in the U.S. as a passenger vehicle but WAS mass-produced for other markets. You do see them brought in for a track event by someone who does not live in the U.S. who then has to leave with it again.

Besides, if your client is trying to get one in just for track use, why would you want to insure it anyway? :)

Rich, sorry to hear about your buddy's car -- yes we are going to have a good time on Sunday!

The missing link here is the bond release letter that authenticates a car as "okay" to be here in the first place. Yes you CAN get the car in, and then use it as a show car, but it's still not accompanied by that bond release. If you use a legit registered importer, it's something they HAVE to do -- they get audited by the Feds and can lose their operating licence if they get caught violating import regs.

But like Rich said, if a fed wants to be a d!ck and you don't have the money to fight it out in court, they can do pretty much whatever they want regardless of any paperwork you show them.

Here's the problem, I don't have any way to put music on in the bedroom. For now, I'm just turning up my main setup so it is audible. Unfortunately, I doubt my neighbors appreciate that much when it's on past 11 or 12 on a weeknight. So how do I combat this?

No tv in the bedroom. What about running some speaker cable from my AVR to the bedroom (I can probably run it along the door frames and conceal it well enough) and using the multi-zone capabilities of the AVR to power some speakers in the bedroom?

If you have a multi zone AVR, it makes the most sense...then you just need speakers and order some wire from monoprice. Only thing that sucks is that it woudl be hard to control....erm never mind...you have the super harmony remote lol.

Exactly. RF and everything. So then the question becomes, do you think this guy will split up this sale?

That's a badass system. I really want to get into the audio area more. I know absolutely nothing about speakers and stuff like that. The surround system I have at home is just an old Bose. Getting bored with it.

Any brands you would suggest Adam?

My guess? No. People that sell sets like that on CL probably want to just dump the whole thing, and think it would be harder to sell them individually. Just a guess though

There are nothing short of 23940823094823 brands to pick lol.

I like Paradigm the most - as evidence by the fact that I have a Paradigm system. Other compaines like, Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Energy, PSB, Aperion, Infinity, Polk, etc......are all good systems.

When it comes to audio, you have to listen for yourself...only your ears can tell you waht you like.

Lou is right.

And I don't need the whole system. I would like to use the 11's as my fronts in the main setup, my existing minis for the rears and my existing center and sub. If I bought all of that gear from him, I'd have an extra sub and an extra center with absolutely NO place to put them. Conveniently, his speakers are all v.3 monitors, which is exactly what I currently run.

I know you're asking Adam, but I figured I'd chime in since I'm into this as well.
I keep an Infinity system in the living room- they rock for my space- especially since I bought them on a budget when I tured 16. My parents have a full set of Paradigms- best things ever IMO.

My dad used to have Cerwin Vega for the living room (old originals) and once he was tired of them, he shifted to JBL (also old originals).
Note that both of these brands were exclusive back when he bought them- well before their broadcasted popularity in the consumer market. I dont think that either of them are what they used to be.
He also had Sennheiser for a while. They're also a fantastic brand. VERY clean sound regardless of bookshelf, subs, stand ups, ear phones, etc. All very clean and worth the price.

If you want a badass set of IEM's, (In Ear Monitors) Etymotic ER6i's are the roxorz. $80, but worth every goddamned penny- especially on the airplane. I prefer them to both of my Sennheiser over the ear models.

To elaborate, I'm a huge fan of Paradigm speakers - they've always sounded good to me. I got my dad into some of the cinema series, and he also has a pair of outdoor paradigms. My whole system is monitor v.3s and a PW-2200 sub. I have friends who have run Def Tech speakers as well, and while I enjoyed them, they never seemed quite as good as my Paradigms. But, as Lou stated, it really comes down to personal preference. Some people like Klipsch speakers, but I find them too bright. I've also never really been a huge fan of Infinity or Polk. Not to say any of those are bad. I've setup systems for friends with Polk and Klipsch, and they've enjoyed them a lot. My ears are just partial to Paradigm...

Check the store locater on Paradigm's website. If they carry Paradigm, they will carry a number of other top-tier brands. They will also likely carry TVs and stuff, and I would almost certainly bet my life they'd be more knowledgeable on any of their products than a store like Best Buy.

Unfortunately, all of that service comes with a cost. I try to support my local HiFi A/V stores for this reason. I'd rather pay a bit more to help them stay in business, because they provide a service I cannot get anywhere else.

And, if you do wander into a store by you, check out Paradigm's top of the line gear (Signature Studio series). I jizz my pants frequently over that gear...

Ill have to check out their site once I get off work. I've always been interested in A/V stuff, but don't know the first thing about them. I should really work on that.

Any best buy with a Magnolia home theater will have a studio room in the back with speakers by Definitive Technology, Polk, Martin Logan, and a few others.

Otherwise, you'll have to find another retailer.

http://hifisalesav.com/

That's a place in Phoenix that sells paradigm - you can go onto each mfg's website and look for a dealer.

Be careful. It's and enjoyable hobby. But I must warn you that it gets retarded expensive...

that's how any good hobby is.

take shooting for example...I wanna get a nice long range rifle set up going...for "entry" level stuff I'm looking at a grand for a decent rifle and glass to put on it.

I'd probably drop about that much in a nice reloading press and dies too...probably need to do this first honestly, save a lot of money in the long run and if I get good enough, wring out the most accuracy of the guns.

Cars...well, we all know how that gets.

I hate to see what hardcore stamp collectors blow money on....

Yea, my dad drops massive amounts of money on guns and ammo. His main rifle right now, a remington 300 ultra mag, cost him about 750 just for the rifle. His swarovski scope cost probably 1500 bucks. His binoculars cost him about 2 grand.

I have a buddy who collects coins of alllll kinds- historic, rare, whatever country, whatever year, heck- whatever century! Hes got a sxit ton of priceless pieces of metal. He spends FAR more than I do on a car or any of my other hobbies. Only difference is, that after he has owned it a while, he just sells it to someone else to make his cash back. His liquid assets in coins is absurd. Try and sell a used performance car part like that, ya know?

One of the guys at work has fashion as his main hobby. I'd LOVE to get a hold of his "out of season and no longer cool" threads just sitting in his closet.

Any hobby gets expensive. I spend WAY more on skiing than I ever anticipated. But once I bought the nice gear, I had to justify using it by going to the mountains more often. Sooo, vacation days, plane tix, gas, food, lodging, hospital bills, etc all that adds up into my "skiing" line on my lifestyle budget sheet. I probably spend more $$ skiing than I do in car mods on any given year- and I can only ski PART OF THE YEAR!!!! :poke: man, I'm dumb sometimes.

Worked all night, ate creamed chipped beef, drank two Red Bulls and an extra strength 5 Hour Energy, drove in a Sparco Sprint to VA. Came home $4200 richer. Not too shabby.

My stomach feels iffy.
