Not only that, but the SR20DE and SR20DET are considered by the EPA to be two different engines.

Quite true.

However, technically turbocharging a motor is legal, yes?

So if you're allowed to take an SR out of a Sentra or whatever, and then reconfigure it for FR, then Turbo it.

Is that NOT an SR20DET, thats USDM legal

That is, if it is legal to place a SR20DE in an S13 chassis.

That would be close....

However, the SR20DE has not been certified for engine replacement in a 240SX by Nissan. And it probably would take some strong convincing to get Nissan to certify that configuration, because it's not very common at all. Something they probably won't make money on even if they did certify it, just because it's too much trouble.

A K20 in a civic bolts right in (in comparison).

What, the SR20DE? I dont plan on it, I was just using an example.

I'd rather have a Turbo KA ;)

taking a transverse engine and then reconfiguring it for rear wheel drive? that's too much work i think. also, the transverse SR20 wasn't intended for the 240 chassis, so by the stated rules, using the transverse SR20 is still illegal?

He was saying that it *would* be legal if Nissan actually took the time to have it certified, but that's not going to happen.

I know someone that works at the Nissan Corperate HQ (hes in my class). I could write a letter, and have him hand it to someone or something.

Maybe we could even do one of them petition thingies ;)

what they need to do is start making the R32,33,34 and the S13,14,15 or at least the 15 agian. At least in the usa other countries it don't matter cause they got it.

its not going to happen, once they stop production, there is no chance of it coming back (except for replicas in some cases). The S chassi is dead to nissan. I would be perfectly happy with a new RWD 4 cylinder nissan but i just dont see it happening.
