I'm getting my knock sensors and wiring harness for them replaced next week. There is no Nissan or Infiniti dealer around here so im just having my usual mechanic do it and also he'd give me a better price. I'm sure he will be able to do it without trouble but he asked me if i had a service manual or could print the sections off that had info about the knock sensors or about replacing them to make it go quicker and less labor. I don't have the manual so i downloaded it and all i can see that has to deal with the knock sensors is the "Trouble Diagnosis for DTC P0325, P0330" under EC and "Outer Component Parts" under EM. They seem very brief and not like much help. Are these the only two sections that helps with the knock sensors. This is dealing with a 1997 Q45 by the way.Thank you.

Search on here for the knock sensor threads and print those out for your mechanic. I just replaced mine (twice actually-another story) and the threads on here are helpful. Maybe some kind soul will link them up?

The knock sensors are surrounded and constrained by a plastic housing. This plastic has an upper temperature limit when exceeded or sustained for a period of years will allow the plastic to crack and eventually change the characteristics enough to fail to function and set a code.

Common item failure on Nissans since 1988..............they all seem to last 7-10 years unless the engine overheats, then failure may be instantaneous or very quick depending upon the exact head temperature and duration.

Kind of a built in warning of sustained overheats [summer shutoffs] depending on life in years.

10 years is normal operating conditions.

Check this thread.

and a few more pics in this one:

The FSM will probably show the torque specs for the KS bolts, and that's about it. I would print out all of the pictures with torque specs around the plenum, and the linked thread.

Good luck!
