I just recently replaced my sr via long block. Intake, turbo exhaust sensors are all the same as before. The engine now runs really rich, iv set the timing a million times and it wont even idle normal, it sounds like its missing every now and then but I dont believe it is. If i hold it at any rpm its rough, but seems to rev fine. I checked the ecu and im getting a code 34, knock sensor. Do I need to replace the knock sensor or do I have another issue causing engine knock? I cant seem to get the car running well, I have to change out the plugs every few days because it runs so rich. I also have a fat 02 sensor in a redtop, and dont know if that is causing a problem or not but it didnt run bad before. any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I do know is s13 redtop comes with a skinny o2 and s13 blacktop comes with a fat o2 sensor. I dont know about the compatibility .

did you swap over the knock sensor, or did it already come with one? if you swaped it over did you torque it correctly? if over tightened or if you used in impact consider the knock sensor dead, they can be destroyed by doing either of the two. also check that your knock sensor harness is still connected, if missing the locking metal clip it can come loose and clip off.

A code 34 does not mean you have engine knock. It means either the sensor has failed, or the harness has something wrong with it. My KS harness took a dump and I just ended up hardwiring it to the main wiring harness, its been fine ever since.

Thanks for your input guys. I just simply swapped it over, to be honest with you at the time I wasnt even sure what it was so i probably just snugged it down. Ill double check it and see how tight it is and if it is still connected. Do you all think that is the reason for the car running so badly?

Bad knock sensors can cause all sorts of goofy runability issues.

very true, torque it down to 15-20 FPT 15 first then 20, you should be fine. check the harness aswell.
