Does the ka24e have a knock sensor or is it just the ka24de?

Question kinda related to this one: if the kock sensor is disconnected or is malfunctioning will the ecu automatically retard the timing a lot? If so, by how much?

I would belive that if it was disconted, it would though a code, and not really afect the car. if it was malfunctioning, there is the posabilty it would retard the timeing back.

No, if the knock sensor is disconnected, it retards the timing to be safe.

The knock sensor on KA's is junk...the factory ECU ignores it above 4K rpm anyways because it isn't reliable. It isn't meant for tuning or detecting high-hp knock.

No it does not... i know for sure... and also the KA24E controls timing through the distributor..

I had that problem, I lost 12hp in the mid RPMS bercause of it...you can wire in a balast resistor to the knock sensor, so it reads "normal" to the ECU, but if the knock gets outa of hand, it will still retard the timing...\use good gas.

also, just to not,e with stiff ejgine mounts, apparnetly tht eknock sensor picks up more engine vibration and can be prone to retard timing on you, even with no problem..

-chetalso, I know a guy that wne tthrough 6 DSM 4g36(?) blocks or whatnot....baka. lots of boost and no buildup means blown motor...

can you unbolt it off the block?

My motor hits a dead spot sometimes around 4-5k rpms and it gets all sluggish.

Plus the thing you said about the motor mounts might make sense too. I have Nismo mounts, they are stiff but not too stiff.

you can unbolt anything. It's just a matter of whether or not you want to live with the check engine light. also the 24E's do NOT have a knock sensor. I can tell you first hand they do not.

I mean, all thats holding the sensor to the block is a 10mm bolt. Will unbolting it cause the same effect as unplugging and having it go into some sort of safe mode?

Is there a way to ground it out like on the new sentras?

just unplug the connector for the Knock Sensor harnes on the front of the motor and put a resistor in it to trick the ECU into thinking everything is all right, oh and dont use crappy gas.
