This is the first time... So maybe I'm ok in that respect. Infact I was expecting to see a lot more in terms of flakes coming out of the engine. I'm gonna try some thicker oil tonight. I broke it in with 10W30. Maybe I'll try 10W40.

I wonder if it's the wastegate flapper, I loosened it off for more extension...

Yes, but they're still bigger than the RB20 ports ;)

Yes. I've since spoke to a machine shop, and several of my other buddies who build domestic engines and they say getting some, if not lots, of metal particles at the beginning of a rebuild is normal, like Carl mentioned.

The shop also said no to rod rod knock (but the one where i get work done said it could be, sort of a biased opinion i think), but said it could be main bearing knock... I'm still not convinced. Gonna investigate more tonight.

I'm seriously considering getting someone to drive that bastard down the highway with me sitting on the engine with a mechanics stethescope. Lol.

a dyno is a better way to do that then to sit on the car...just sayin lol.
never really heard of nissans spinning main bearings, this isnt a DSM car.
have you ruled out the possiblity that something is hitting once underload?
my wastegate dump tube would randomly rap against the frame rail under load but loosening and pushing it over some solved the problem.

You guys are going to hate me.

Lol.

I decided to check the wastegate. After I disconnected the wastegate, that changed where the sound was heard. Upon closer in-f***-spection, I noticed the turbo inlet flange was loose! My god.

Its been emotional.

I've actually got two friends over here that have spun main bearings in GTR's from trying to gymkhana them. Crappy oil pan design gets all the oil stuck away from the pick up, sucks dry, spun main (#1 both cases) :frown:

That's actually awesome news man. Congrats. Now about your shop mistaking that sound for rod knock................
