I love cats but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

I have a problem here at my shop where about 10 stray cats all had kittens last spring. Now there are no less than 50 stray cats running around and it's getting #$!#$!@ annoying. If I open the garage door a few will run in the shop and hide and I have no choice but to leave them inside for a few days until they decide to leave. Then they s*** all over the place and it stinks like hell. One got in my truck the other day. They go through the garbage can outside and make a huge mess. They're just a huge nascence. The local animal control said it's a huge problem right now but they have better things to do then to come catch cats. If I attempt to catch them myself I'm concerned about problems with animal cruelty. I don't want to shoot the cute kitty's cause that's just wrong. I don't want to starve them to death in my shop. What do I do about them? Any suggestions?

slowly get rid of them. acquire an old sack, find whatever methods to get even at least one in the bag. drive somewhere a good distance from your shop and let it go.

Done. Feral cats aren't cute. They're a serious problem, especially with the decimation of migratory songbirds.

I've never shot a firearm and don't know anything about them. However I do have a friend who does. . . . but discharging a weapon within city limits can get you slapped.

Nobody want's stray cats that are full of rabies and ring worm. Animal control said they're putting as many as 20 down a day because of the explosive overpopulation.

You're the law expert, figure out your local ordinance on caliber-size for air rifles, buy yourself an IZH in the model of your choosing, have fun!

If you can get some (where!?!), I've heard of some success with using coyote urine as a deterrent.

Slow, unwary songbirds...allow me to introduce you to a friend of mine.

Honestly, if it's got wings and has a problem getting away from a cat maybe it's time to step out of the gene pool and make room for the better of its kind.

As far as decimating bird populations you'd do more good by slapping on some patchouli, slipping on your hemp clothing and protesting deforestation, pollution and pesticides as all of these kill far more birds than feral cats do.

Once I caught a feral kitten by it's tail.

It was pretty angry with me.

I shot a cat with a paintball gun once. It just jumped like 5 feet in the air and ran off though. Good luck!

put out a bowl of food, snatch them up while they're eating, put them in (breatheable) boxes and a) take them to the animal shelter or b) out to a field somewhere? i feel bad them having no home and no food. breaks my heart.

If you want to be humane, advertise to a guy with a farm who has a mouse/rat problem.

The bowl of antifreeze will work, however, but the smell of the cats you can't find will be worse then the sh*t they leave behind...

^ You'll not likely find many farmers who want the cats around even if they do have a vermin problem. My own grandparents routinely slaughter barn cats to control the population.

Antifreeze is extraordinarily cruel for animal disposal. The death is slow and excrutiatingly painful. I'm a softie when it comes to critters but even if I wasn't that would not be a method I'd employ.

Well, you could call PETA with an Ultimatum.

Come get these things you love so much or there will be a massacre. Then a bunch of kids come with cat carriers will come and yell at you for even thinking of hurting kitties. At least that's what we do around here.

Go to the police department or animal control (its the police department for me) and pick up a bunch of cat traps. They work well doesnt cost you anything unless you dont bring the traps back, and its humane. But seriously they are just gonna be killed anyways. Get a dog. Pitbulls are born hating cats! He will kill a few and scare the rest off for sure, plus dogs are awesome and great to have around the shop for morale!

Poison is out of the question - I may not like them but I won't poison them. I'm not an animal (excuse the pun). I'm thinking traps and animal control will be the answer. Animal control puts them down in a humane way. There are a few cats that are the neighbor's pets so I do want to be careful (I know, keep track of your damn cats so the nasty neighbor doesn't kill them).
