Maybe I haven't looked as thoroughly an I need to, but I have a keypad on the driver's door of my newly-acquired 2001 Q45, and I don't know how to operate it or find out or change the code. I can't seem to find anything in the owner's manual, either. Any suggestions/instructions would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike.

:welcome: to NICO!

Can you post a picture of this keypad? I don't think I've seen that option before... I wonder if it's aftermarket?

I took a picture on my phone, somehow got it loaded on the computer, but haven't yet figured out how to get it on this forum. Maybe my son can help when he's not busy.

I recall earlier Nissan Maximas having a row of buttons on the door so I just googled "1991 Nissan Maxima Keypad" and briefly looked at some links that came up on how to locate themaster reset code. I think your picture would help, and maybe a locksmith would be able to tell you who makes the pad if it is aftermarket. Usually the installer's contact information would be somewhere in the car.

I am just as curious about this keypad. I am willing to post your picture for you, if it would save you some trouble.

EdBwoy, I tried to contact you via private message through this forum, but got a YouTube screen. I was hoping to send you the photo of the keypad, and you could post it on this thread. If you could private message me your email address, or your phone #, I could email or text you the photo. I apologize for my computer ineptitude. Thanks, Mike.

No problem, I'm glad to help. Why go through the frustration if you're not going to be posting many pictures?

I PM'd you

EdBwoy, this site has thoroughly confounded me. I've tried everything I know and have been unable to retrieve your PM to me. Any suggestions/directions?

I believe there is a minimum number of posts you need to have in order to send PMs. I suppose the same applies to receiving them?

Anyway, send pictures to [REDACTED]. We'll get thru this

Ok, sent it to you, should have it by now. Go ahead and post it on the forum to see if anybody knows anything about it. Thanks so much for sticking with me on this. Mike.

You bet! And I know I requested you take another one in my response, because my phone showed a very cropped image. It shows up just fine on the computer so this works for me. It looks like an aftermarket pad to me.
Here it is: Image

Aftermarket. There's nothing about door keypads in the owners manual. https://www.infiniti-techinfo.com/refgh ... ti-Q45.pdf

Ditto for the FSM. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/2001_Q45/2001_Q45/

I'm going to guess that's an aftermarket unit. I've never seen anything like it installed from the factory on a Nissan or Infiniti. I did some searching, and can't find anything that looks exactly like it - but aftermarket stick-on units aren't uncommon.

Yeah, I agree that it's probably aftermarket. I bought the car from the second owner's widow. She didn't know anything about it either. I wonder if I can just take it off, and hope there aren't any holes in the door under the keypad, or in the alternative try to find out how it works--codes, activation (unlikely in my estimation).

I suspect it's stick-on, with a dead lithium battery inside... that seems to be the way most of them worked.

So, in your opinion, can I just peel it off, or will it have wires that go into the skin of the door?

My guess is that you could peel it off.
