Yea its completely stupid that when no one is in the seat, it won't deploy and the light is off, then if something lightweight is in the seat the light comes on to tell you it's still off, but if someone's in the seat, the light should be off so you can fear for your life because it might be on or off its your guess. Why can't it say Airbag off when no one is in the seat, and then say airbag off with a car seat illuminated when its picking up something lightweight? The few times I've let someone else drive my car more often than not it doesn't register I'm sitting there, and I weigh 125lbs i have to consciously plant my butt firmly for it to agree I'm big enough to need an airbag. I just wish it was built like a pickup truck where you have to put a key in the switch to set it to on or off.

The problem with the key-switched systems is that people forget to turn it on or off (like on the early Frontiers). With an automated system, you remove the human factor. I'm not saying Nissan's system is fool-proof, but at least they are making an attempt at it. Remember though, that it always errs towards the side of child safety.

I totally get that, i guess my mind is old-fashioned. I wish society hadn't failed so far that the car has to be smart enough to know when a child that should be in the back-seat is sitting upfront; but so many people have lost common-sense knowledge.

Growing up my mom had the worst luck with cars, and my head's met plenty of dashboards face to face. It wasn't until we owned a car that had airbags that her luck (and mine too I guess) changed. We got t-boned on my side in her Mercury Capri (80's) at a red light, she fell asleep driving me home from day-care one afternoon in her Cutlass Cierra (we cross the double yellow line went into the ditch on the other side of the road, clipped a phone pole, went through a split-rail fence; the fire-hydrant finally stopped us when it tore the transmission out from under the car. I think that's what gave me a subconscious fear of roller-coasters. Nobody was ever hurt, I just always ended up having a welt on my head. Looking back this explains so much....

I found a salvaged altima with leather interior and thinking of getting every leather piece out of there and in my car. I'm worried about this airbag recall issue. Dealer ordered a new sensor(?) but it'll take forever before they get it, so i could actually do leather swap before recall.

Here's the question :Will new sensor ordered for my original seat (using MY VIN number) fit and work on other altima's leather seat ???

you are going to strip your cloth seats and put the leather on it or just swap the seats?

Thinking of swaping entire seats. There's no way i'm getting leather without heat option

If the dealer ordered something for the airbag recall, it's typically a seat bottom. I would not do the conversion until this is installed.

Unfortunately, you'll be right back at the dealer with an airbag light on, more than likely, due to the conversion. And if you ever have a seat-related issue it won't be covered because you changed it to seats that did not come in your particular car.

It shouldn't. Basically you peel off the OEM skin and put this in it's place. Pretty easy install, I bought Katzkins for my last vehicle

FYI, Katzkin or Roadwire leather seat conversion kits when done by a licensed facility like ours do NOT void the warranty in any way whatsoever. We do 3-5 of these leather kits for Nissan alone per week. Probably half of those being Altima's. They carry a one million dollar liability policy and we have never triggered an airbag light or system malfunction with installation. These aftermarket seat covers are built to EXCEED OEM specs across the board. As a matter of fact, many Nissan dealers prefer them over the OEM leather because they actually tend to hold up better. The leather is dyed all the way through so when the car gets many years on it, and the customer does not keep protectant on it, and it eventually begins to crack, the aftermarket leathers have the same color underneath. The factory leather is white underneath and looks horrible when it starts to age.

And the install on the first Altima listed here looks okay. However, I probably have over a hundred pics that we have taken in the last couple of years on Altimas alone and you can see that when a real pro that does this all day long installs one of these kits, they fit better than OEM. If there are any wrinkles, most are steamed out by the professional installer so that when the customer takes delivery at the end of the day, it looks flawless. Take a swing by our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/mcorautomotive and flip through some of the pic galleries to see what I mean.

Pricing? You shoud pay no more than about $700 for a carry out kit if you can find a dealer who will sell it to you (NOT for the average DIY'er), or $899 installed. If you add two tone price in about $50-$100 and contrast double stitching is actually free for the authorized shop so most will not charge extra for it. Average install time on a Altima for my lead upholsteror is about 6 hours begining to end.

I dunno, I mean it looks ok, but it looks like a "slipcover" that you put on a couch definitely not "tight". Kinda bunchy...doesn't look OEM to me at all

You didn't provide a shipping address, however using zip code 90069 in Los Angeles, your estimated S&H would be only about $75 additional. Email me if interested [email protected]
