I dig the colour scheme, but I'm not too sure if I can get beyond its "bunchiness" in certain spots...seems kinda cheap IMHO. I always thought Katzkin would fit a little more flush with the OEM seats...

well red n black 2 tone is a nice setup but never in a silver car it just dosent go together. also the leather looks bunched in alot of the side and corner areas also through the panels and stitching looks poorly made. The stock leather is of a much higher quality and hugs all the curves the right way and looks soo much more supple.

and at 2nd look pics # 5, 7 and 9 the leather looks much thicker and poorly cut compared to mine.

if it was something someone could use to replace something that got damaged well thats cool then but if you get it just because u want leather...well then you should have just bought the package with it (and dont give me that blah blah blah cuz this in that package and im gonna replace with better after market this or that) if you wanted leather you got the package it dident cost barley anything just a couple grand.

so what do they want for this kit 850?

well if your price estimate is right, and I wanted leather I probably would have went this route. ya it has its downsides like everything else but a couple grand for leather and things you will switch out or a custom leather interior for less than a grand...

...that is IF your estimate is right

I've wanted to do this for a while now. I helped my friend reupholster his car with the katzkin leather kit, so it isn't terribly difficult to do it yourself. A good portion of the wrinkles go away with time (and summer heat making the leather shrink to fit). The only thing holding me back from doing it is money, gotta find a job first.

And after seeing the A/C kit installed I'm making it a necessity that when and if I ever order the kit, they are going to have to alter the pattern to remove those horrible kangaroo pockets on the front of the seats. I hate those things, they serve no purpose other than to stretch out and look bad. I'm tempted to request them to not put the seat-back pockets on to for that same reason. In every car I've ever owned I have never used the seat pockets, yet they always seem to stretch out over time.

Oh and +1 for pleather! Not because I'm against cows or anything it just wears and holds up so much better.

Damn that looks good! Good to know about the wrinkles vanishing over time...that was the biggest factor holding me back!

...now I wonder where I could order this in Calgary............

I thought the stock leather is pleather, because it actually lasts longer than leather.

Most auto manufacturers use pleather or vinyl on the back and sides of the seats as well as the door panels because its cheaper and it isn't something that you actually touch on a regular basis. Generally the only real leather is the actual seating surface on the front side. The bolsters of the seat vary from car to car. The Audi that I had prior had tan "pleather" all over and it looked brand new (no wrinkles, scuffs, tears, or gouges) after six years, and my friend had one that was a year newer with black leather and it looked horrible. Nothing against cows, but man-made just holds up over time better.

That being said I don't mind having real-leather either, I just know from previous experiences that it needs to be babied and taken care of a lot more.

And about those pockets: In the front driver side I have a pocket knife (I seem to need it a lot) and my Ipod.In the front passenger side I have my other Ipod (in case the 1st one dies hahahaha

In the back driver side I actually found my missing Oznium blue ledand nothing in the back of the passenger seat because the staples ripped out and now everything just falls through...

Luckily I installed the iPod kit so mine lives in the cubby in he dash. The only thing I have ever tried to put in the kangaroo pouches was my garage door opener, and that didn't last, it got moved to he console. VW/Audi has been notorious for putting the storage drawers (hard plastic with metal rails and latches) under the front seats, now that was handy. I'm just way too OCD to use something that can deform or stretch out. For example cars with visible cigarette lighters, I always would have to check and make sure the picture of the cigarette was straight before I could ever start the car... I've got it bad.

I can handle multiples of 5 or even numbers, but I don't like the number 6, don't know why though.

I certainly hope you guys that do this conversion have had the seat airbag recall done on your cars. If you car has had the seats recovered, that voids the warranty and makes the recall inapplicable to your vehicle due to modifications directly affecting the seats and the sensors in them that detect occupants.

I used to work for a car stereo shop that did leather conversions for dealerships, and we would not do any car with side impact airbags for that exact reason, even though our supplier offered leather conversions for cars with side impact airbags. Way too much liability. If the airbag fails to deploy or deploys incorrectly, that releases the manufacturer of the car from any liability due to modifications that altered the factory performance of the installed airbag.

I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but most (if not all) of Nissans passenger seat occupant detection systems use an air capsule located in the bottom of the passengers seat that detects weight to engage the passengers airbag dependent upon the pressure placed on the air capsule. As pressure increases, that tells the airbag diagnosis unit or ECM whether there is an occupant of great enough weight to justify activating the passenger airbag. If that seat cover is too tight, that could easily create a scenario where the sensor could falsely report the correct weight being on the seat and you would then put an infant or small child at risk of airbag deployment. Anybody considering this better think about it and the risks you are taking just for something that looks good.

I'm so sick of the airbag sensor problem, I haven't gotten the recall letter but mine is constantly on/off whenever someone's in the car, I wish it could just be re-wired to always deploy regardless of occupancy. I remember when I got my Scion tC forever ago there was an issue with the side impact airbags going off when people or the wind slammed the doors closed. At the rate of detonation from the explosives the seat will blow apart no matter if its leather or cloth; so for me I really don't care about the airbags; I'm never going to have a small child in my car, and if for some odd reason there ever is a child in my car they'll squeeze their happy butt in the backseat because their parent will be up front holding their leash. (sorry not a kid person) =)

It is a valid point about the weight of the sensors, but I don't foresee the leather across the seat bottom ever being stretched so tight that the amount of weight the sensor is looking for could be supported (hovered) over it without it being able to feel it (if Nissan ever gets the problem fixed that is).

Does anyone else find it a poor design that the airbag light will be off to signify that it WILL deploy because someones in the seat, and be off to signify that it WON'T because nothing is in the seat? I just find that completely backwards logic.

Well CPS was saying that the leather stretched too tight in addition to a small child being in the seat, and an airbag with a small child could be lethal.

I considered that to be backwards (with the airbag light) however now that you explain it, it seems right. But when i'm in my car it seems backwards... idk

You mean, it will be ON to signify that it WON'T deploy.

Yea, I think that's real stupid. In my gf's Chevy Cobalt, it explicitly says that it is ON or OFF. None of this guessing bull****.

Since there is a light to tell you that it is off... what if by some freak accident that light burns out? You're there happily thinking the airbag is on BECAUSE the light is off, but it's really off because the light WOULD be on, but it's burnt out.
