i still have some cleaning to do on the oil pan, and block. but the upper timing cover and valve cover has been hot tanked and painted black. I was thinking bout painting the head and intake manifold red but not sure. Maybe cast looking would be cleaner.

Its cool you have a nice space to work on your car. I've had my 5spd swap parts for like 2 weeks and haven't been able to put it in. Where I used to live was great but now I can't do ****. Everything looks like its coming together good!.

Why you have everything so open like that i suggest a 110/125amp alt upgrade it would be so EZ with the motor out. I just did that swap and my lights are brighter and my system don't dim my lights and i guess my ELC fan is getting FULL power cuz i am running cooler also.

it is so open cause I just finished fuxin with it!!! rest assured it is covered up. ohh maybe all the xtra parts in back. those are not being used and are for sale best offer!!! All parts not yet installed are in storage room!!!

I aint got the money for any more damn parts especially an alternator, mine worked fine before!

Believe it or not I live in base housing and I am not even allowed to change my oil at my house. I hope they dont notice that I am building an engine and installing at the house. It is a nice area to work tho!!! My carport floor is so nasty!!!

booo hooo hooo!!! I am ned sure what happend but I musta messed somthing up!!! Ok I now have a blown headgasket with out even getting it fired. I torqued it down like the manuals says. Also I have NO spark!!! When I hooked up my battery it arked very bad, I inmmediatly took off. No fuses were blown so I put back on, no ark. I figured what ever was done is blown/burnt. Turned key on to see what wasnt working, couldnt figure out what messed up. So I tried cranking. turned but not firing. Checked and was getting fuel and timing seemed right, but not getting ANY spark. I looked at my msd6btm's ground wire was not attached. So I thought that is why I got no spark. Grounded msd and cranked. No spark still. I am thinking that when It acked it blew up my msd cause it wasnt grounded! I was looking at btm Like, " I hate you msd!" I moved radiator hose and heard a noise. I squeezed it and water squirted out from the block and head. I turned my back on the car. I really took my time building this motor. Had some issues with the head. rebuilt a new one. bolted in on properly. then rused into throwing the motor in, I guess. Everything was checked except for the msd which I havent touched since it was installed 8 months ago, I guess I did for some reason unhook the msd. MAN WHY DID MY HEADGASKET BLOW??????? MAYBE FAULTY FROM FACTORY!!! I am thinking of removing the msd and running a straight dizzy! When a new headgasket goes in.

Would water squirt out of the area in between the block and head if head was warped a bit? I mean a steady squirt!

Sounds like an improper head install to me...

When you say no spark, are you actually looking at the end of the plug while it's connected to the wire?

Yah how did you check for spark, and also what kind of HG is that? I have never seen one for a KA with that type of an outline.

I'd start at the dizzy and work backwards checking for voltage. Closely inspect the harness for chaffe as well.

Did you crush an alignment dowel by chance? Somthing is keeping the head from seating, I doubt it is THAT warped...but it is possible.

Do this, Unhook the plug wire from the spark plug, and hold it close to to like a strut bar or something while the wire is connected to the coil, then crank the engine and see if you see an ARK. As for the HG install, do you know what kind of shape the heads were in?

Head was old but good condition. I replaced all the valve seals and scrubbed it down then threw on. I dont think I meddes up the allignment dowle(s) cause I felt it click sorta onto the block! I hafta mess with it tonight after work checking for voltage on the msd to the dizzy.

Sorry to hear, man.

I would forget about the spark issue for now. Coolant coming out between your head and block is a much bigger problem. ...I wouldnt want to crank the motor anymore if I knew that was happening.

It sucks, I know, but you're gonna have to pull the head back off now and see what you've got going on. It's probably something stupid- just take a deep breath and spend a day getting it done.

I am positive it was somthing very stupid!!!! Actually I know how stupid. I have been teaching a buddy how to build motor. I had em pull the 1st head I was gonna use back off the block. He did so. The I told him to put the new one on. No head gasket change!!! So I am thinking that the headgasket that I got sitting in storage room wasnt put on!!!!!!! That would/could cause it to leak right. There was not even a start up attempt wit the first head on It was just torqued onto the block. I am working on my stuff by myself from now on!!! Oh well I am gonna pull the head off some time this week! I am thinking of buying a new dizzy so I dont hafta mess with un-modifing the old one! I just gotta figure out how to fix the wires back to stock! Reading the fsm for wiring hurts my brain.

I know what you mean about fixing the headgasket before I worry bout spark, only problem is I know how to fix blown hg, no clue on fixing spark issue!!! If I revert back to stock on ignition and get no spark I am gonna sell it all!!!! I am getting very frustrated with this PILE!

I suggest you buy a multi-meter and do what WD said and work from the dizzy back and see where the problem is.

well you really seem to have some bad luck... maybe worse than florida's

but... am I the only one that kinda thinks this is a rush and get done job... whithout much experience? Looks like there was some rust on the cam shims, flywheel ect... i'm not trying to be an *** but it seems like your in a big rush and thats why things are not working out right.

Good Luck getting it all solved tho

how do you get expirence? Do it right. I have built a few of these motors!!! There is no rust on shims. There is orange paint on one of the cams. And If you read that flywheel is NOT the one I used! But I thank you for your input wild_maxx!!!

I dont thin there is a fuse in the msd box, but I am gonna check. I ordered another headgasket, and have a long weekend this weekend! I am gonna change the headgasket. I really wasnt rushing on this build.

I think I am gonna try to figure out what the deal is with the msd. If I cant I am gonna get another dizzy and put it back to stock ignition!!!

ok I think I have figured out what happend with my ignition system!!!! In an effort to clean up engine bay I shortened some and lengthened other wires. During this process I must have messed up wiring. I dont have the msd coil hooked up to the trigger wires any more. I Have to go to work now, but after work I am gonna rewire properly and see if she gets spark. After that I will be just needing to put a new headgasket in!!! Hopefully It will work!!!
