I thought today was gonna be the day! I got new headgasket in there. Fixed my msd ignition problem. I am getting spark now!!! I just am not able to get it to fire at all! I had been cranking it for a while but smelled no GAS!!! I got to run to a party so I cant mess with it more. What would make me have no fuel. I am hearing the fuel pump cut on. There is just nothing making it to the motor. I think!

Been there swapped out a sohc motor and my friend hooked them up.... after 25 minutes of screwing around, I went and took a couple shots of Jack Daniels and came back to the car and fixed it..

Yeah I get my moron award for that one. But in the process of yankin the fuel line off i messed up somthing. now when batt connected the starter turns but doesnt engage, sounds like an electric drill. I am gonna look at it later. I just got off work and I am tired!

could be the gears not kick out of the starter onto the flywheel. Have someone turn the key while you hit the starter with a rubber hammer. That might break it free.

If I hook up the battery the starter starts spinning!! I think its a wiring issue!

Ok after 4 hours of messing with this headache today I figured I would test the starter(hit it with hammer) and the problem went away. I tried to crank and I just dont think the starter is gonna be able to get it going!!! I am charging battery up but on the wire connected to the neg was smoking. Could this be caused by the starter?

Neg terminal on the battery? Or the Neg terminal attached to the block?

Clean the terminals, make sure you have a good connection. That will also make your starter act like the battery's going dead.

And put more grounds on your engine-to-chassis. I have 4x 4gauge wires on mine in uber secret strategic places.

I recharged my battery added a few extra grounds and I am pretty sure that my starter is DUN!!! I sounds almost like I have bent valves, But I know I dont. The starter just doesnt have what it takes to start the car, I think. I think I wore it out before trying to figure out why I couldnt start before!!!(when Fuel lines and Msd were not correct) Now she make a cranking noise but doesnt seem to get good turns and also it sounds like it slips teeth occasionalls making a horrible noise. I got a few buddies that have done sr swaps so I am gonna try to get a starter of one of them!

Sounds like a solenoid going bad on the starter not engaging properly. It sucks having multiple problems.

I've become a master at starter swaps on the ka24de... So what is the current problem with your car? Fixed the head yet? What about dizzy wiring?

I pulled the starter down and beat on it and then put it back. Yeah its gotta be the starter. Head gasket changed msd rewired fuel injectors firing timing is on have compression now starter quits.I am having some issue tho with the wires connecting to my battery in the trunk. They heat up, no clue why. I have plenty of good grounds Maybe starter is the cause

The wires are getting hot??? You got a power wire then touching a ground... Check your power wire going back to your engine bay... it may be pinched somewhere. Does this now, don't want to see the next thread title.... "My car burned down sitting in my driveway"

ok I am having an issue here! Starter is not having any issues anymore. It sounds like, when cranking that spark plugs arent installed. IE not getting any compression now right. I was thinking that maybe my cams jumped a tooth or somthing. Well no that is fine. I did a compression test the other day and I was good. I turned motor by hand it sounded like compression was escaping???? What could the deal be? I gotta get another compression tester to see if it is still ok. what is the deal..????!!?!?!??!??!????

you mean your starter is just turning and going "WAAAAAAHHHHHHH" instead of "waa waah waah chug chug vrooooom"? Sounds like your teeth are gone on your flywheel or your starter, so the starter motor is just spinning without turning the motor itself. Get someone els out there while you crank and see if the crank pulley is turning. That will tell you if its at the starter or in the motor.

I have the hood removed and I see the clutch fan moving when cranking! It cranks the motor! It sounds like when cranking when spark plugs are removed! Every once in a while it feels like I get compression!

hey sorry if this is totally off topic but can i see a pic of what your timing marks/chain on the upper chain? I'd like to see what they should look like as opposed to what mine actually look like. I think mine previously was installed wrong and am trying to correct the problem before i throw the motor in.

except the custom motor mounts/ replace front subframe, rewiring the engine harness, dealing with the crank collar /oil pump FAILURE problem, ordering parts from japan, shipping costs, can't go to napa and find a WP, HG, headbolts, timing belt ect... the ****ty intake manifold, stock turbo, DP clearence with steering linkage, and a bunch more things that will NEED to be changed before the motor is ready to go. How old are these motors? How long have they been sitting in a junk yard?

I made custom motor mounts for my KAT!Rb 20 need no subframe replacement, uses 240'sa pre done rewire is 250replaceing collar is 100 bucks and solves the oil pump prob!Enjuku has h20 pumps for 85, a new one will be installed before motor is put inenjuku has timing belt for 125 also will be replaced before motor is installedfor 200 there is a o2 housing that is custom made to clear s14 stearing

All this will leave me witha motor that yes will be from a junkyard and has been sitting a while but was designed for turbo and is not insanely priced. Worth the risk.

For 1600 SHIPPED doesnt seem too bad. After my turbo setup is sold in a few days I should have enough for swap h20 pump timing belt wiring to get done and the o2 housing. I do appreciate your words of wisdom and believe me I have been thinking hard about this! but in my eyes it just seems like the right direction for me to go in right now!
