Has anyone bought one of these and was it worth it? The webpage beefs it up but they always do. Anyways I was going to do intake as my first mod to my motor and was curious if it lived up to the hype. I've seen that most people use CAI but I live on a back road that can start to flood when it rains. Anyways any help would be appreicated....Thanks

If you are worried about water getting into the intake because you could be driving it when that road floods, I would suggest just getting a K&N drop in replacement filter.

The K&N FIPK isn't a true CAI, its a short ram and will be located in your engine bay, that's why it comes with a heat shield.

Unless the water come up over your hood you'll be in good shape, in which case you've got bigger concerns.

+1^. It's not a CAI. I have one for my truck. K&N is one of the more reputable brands of intake systems out there. I definitely recommend it. If you want a K&N CAI, look into the Typhoon series. I heard it's a pain to install tho.

I did know that this wasn't a cold air intake. Sorry i guess my original thread was worded kinda confusing.

I see that most people on this site get the nismo or injen cold air intakes and recommend those, but I'm not sure what I want (like most people...ha). I was wondering if this K&N model was worth the money.

I guess my question should be asked this way.....Is this K&N worth the money or should I get something like the JWT pop charger? Or just get a CAI and not worry about the water issue.

No need to apologize.

The JWT popcharger is a great bang for the buck mod, and certainly one of the most popular.

If you're concerned about water I'd stick with a short ram type intake for peace of mind, no sense in you having to check the Weather Channel every time you want to take a drive.

Use the money you save and spend it on headers and/or a cat back system that won't have you worry about the weather.

Exactly!^ I'm running a K&N drop in right now because it got rainy in CA this winter. I'm planning to switch back to my Nismo in the summertime when it gets dry enough. I've heard that Injen and/or AEM has a system to where you can set it up CAI or SR. It's just a matter of putting on the extension for CAI and leaving it as is for SR. If your gonna get CAI it's advisable to look for one with an air bypass. It's a precautionary feature that allow the intake to breathe through a bypass valve in the occasion that your main cone/filter gets submerged in water. Nismo and AEM has this feature. I have it, however, i still don't feel comfortable driving with the CAI in heavy rain.

So would you recommend the Nismo CAI or am I going to see the same response and power either way I go. I see that some people say that they can feel a difference and other say that intakes are insignificant..

You wouldn't "feel" the difference with just the intake alone. You'd definitely hear the difference. Combined with other intake mods like a plenum/spacer a decent exhaust system, you'd feel slight power gains. As far as power, different configurations(CAI vs. SR)/brands(design, material, etc.) will yield different gains in the powerband. Some will give you low end torque and others will give you mid range power, and so on. You'll have to do your research there. My nismo CAI doesn't produce noticeable power until i hit the 5200 rpm mark. That's with a Y-pipe and an CAT back exhaust.

Well I do know that my future mods will include a stillen true dual exhaust, plenum/spacer (not sure which one), maybe turbo....anyways that's too far away to worry about.Right now I guess I'm between the nismo CAI or the K&N FIPK. Ha guess it really just comes down to which one is cheaper. Thanks for all the input

The best bang for your buck still lies in F/I. Cheapest hp/$!zerothread/315594
