  Actual HP Gains!

Just thought I'd piece this together for those shopping for power, this is based on actual dyno's done by people that aren't me.

Used 350Z's can be had for under $20,000, they make 287 hp so they cost $69.69 per hp

Say you want more power, many people go for the intake manifold and or plenum spacer, this is based on the independent results found at g35driver.com http://g35driver.com/forums/sh...96688

MREV2 (retail; $399) + 5/16 ISO spacer (retail; $299) =

+5WHP ($698/5=$139.60 per whp gained)

In the winter 06 issue of Sport Z, they did an intake shootout and tested the motordyne 1/2 spacer with the stock intake and yielded a 10.2 hp gain, in the same test the 5/16 spacer with the stock intake yielded 6.1 hp gain??
At any rate the 1/2 spacer $265 / 10.2 hp = $25.98 per hp
5/16 spacer $235 / 6.1 hp = $38.63 per hp

in ten fall 04 issue of Sport Z Magazine they tested a couple of popular combo's and found that the Injen Cold air intake, with the Crawford Plenum and the Injen Exhaust at a total cost of about $1500 / 19.5 hp gain = $76.93 per hp

Want exhaust? the Sport Z Magazine 2003 exhaust shootout winner was Borla (I'd love a more update exhaust test if anyone knows of one please link it in) http://www.stillen.com/media_f...7.pdf (stillen was a very close second at 8.1 hp and actually made more torque but costs a good bit more)
Retail price $845.49/ peak 8.2 whp gain = $103.16 per hp

Now say you want to upgrade to forced induction, summer 05 of Sport Z Magazine shows us that the JWT kit makes 166 whp over stock! At $6895 / 166 whp = $41.54, this just keeps getting better

Spring 04 sc shoot out showed us that the ATI Procharger kit make a whopping 111 hp! At a retail price of $5799 / 111 hp = $52.25 per hp!

Last but not least, add lightness! Lightweight wheels and lightweight flywheel instead of adding heavy subwoofers and speaker box's, listen to the music emanating from under hood, and if you spend all your money on go fast parts and can't afford to eat you'll loose weight and be even faster

A lightweight battery or lightweight seats can save a few lbs, if you’re really crazy you can strip out the entire interior including the heat and a/c, then you can start removing sound deadening and undercoating but most of you aren’t crazy enough for such tactics.

Thats some excellent info, getting the 1/2 spacer soon. I had alot of trouble with intakes, actually doing worse than the stock so I stuck with that (and its pretty good to start with).

I have Nismo exhaust, it yielded a 10 rwhp increase, but thats on a 350G, not a Z.

Do you know if you get a 1/2 spacer for a Z will the front strut bar still be able to fit over it or do you have to loose it?

if there isn'tenough room, you could always add a couple of spacers under the bar , or just get one fo the bars intended for use with custom intakes

I justthink it's funny when people say they got the carbon fiber hood to save weight and are rolling on 20" wheels and a pair of subs in the back

20's ftl. I think they look stupid on the Z, in fact, I saw one yesterday with some Chrome 20's... (he also had a chrome grill, chrome door handles, chrome trim... it was almost as bad as that blue ricer 350z that was "supercharged" with like 20 stick-on scoops... )

Adding to the original post, Turbonetics comeplete single turbo kit increases the stock 287hp to 450hp, thats 163hp increase, which is 3hp less than the JWT twin kit, but it is less than $5000, actually $4800 at turbokits.com. $29.45 per HP. Thats something to think about.

Also, as far as planums and spacers, i went with the Kinetix V+ plenum ($300) allows a lot more air and is made of composite plastic so you are actually reducing weight instead of increasing it, by adding a spacer. The dyno results are 14rwhp+ increase. $21.43 per HP + weight reductiong of (i think) 3 lbs. The plenum comes with all required hardware including strut bar spacers because the plenum is so much larger that it requires the sturt bar to be raised a bit, but your stock hood will have no trouble with clearance, i assure you.

I cannot seem to quickly locate the plenum spacers for the '07+. Has anyone found out if there are spacers for the newer Z's?

I covered the JWT kit and the result I found was +166 whp, but 3 hp could be noise in the data, I also used published price at the time of the article, I'm sure most of these prices could be improved upon, I welcome additions to this thread but please post your sources for hp and pricing, and please do not include manufacturer advertized hp gains as motorsyne has shown up they are not advertising peak gains

We have a different motor. SO far we don't have any for the HR engines that I know of.

Did you reset your ECU by unplugging your car's battery after installing the intake?
