Has anyone used it. I tried to insert it but it doesn't fit in my 03 SE. It seemed wider than the slot that it fit in.

K&N's fit really tight. Did you buy part # 33-2031-2 ? That is the one for your car.

I would also go with a dry hi-flow filter instead of a K&N.

I have had the same one for quite a while in my QX4 (was in my older QX4 before) and it is a tight fit.

I guess you will just have to go get a cold air intake and a cone filter now.

i bought my injen intake about 2 years ago and the kit came with an "injen filter." so, i decided to be cheap and use the included filter during my install. later when i was getting ready and cleaning before a show one dayi decided to do anjd oil change and air filter change. i took the injen filter, which was by that time cover with caked-on dust, and tried to match up sizes with the k&n's. anyways to make the story short i had to buy a filter one size larger instead. i installed it and like it much much better than the injen filter! better throttle response, increased a little h.p. and sounded WAY better!!!

Yes, I did the same thing. Wish I had a dry filter instead of the K&N tho.

I picked up an AEM Dryflow filter from my local parts store which is nearly unheard of because alot of the big chain stores dont carry that stuff. Just got lucky I guess. By the way, I love it. Sounds amazing.

AEM Dryflow FTW!!

I could use some advice. I have a 96 I30 with 245k on it. I'm not ready to let her lose performance. I took out the stock air box which I've heard wasn't a great idea and replaced it with a ram air. I have no power during the warmer days here in Cali.

I see that there are CAIs for the Max but not the I30. I thought they were setup pretty much the same under the hood?

Also what's the concensus on gas mileage after installing the CAI?

Maxima parts should fit the I30

For the most part, you get less gas mileage because you are more prone to put your foot down to hear the "roar"

There are only a few TRUE cold air intakes for the Max/I30. If it sucks air from the engine bay, it's a warm/hot air intake. Place racing made one, good luck in finding one. Cattman also makes one. $$$ You will also need to cut a hole from the engine bay to the inside of the drivers side fender. Those are the only TRUE CAI's that I've seen. All the others are WAI's

What's interesting is that the factory 2k2 intake actually ( tries to ) suck air from the front of the hood. In a way, it is actually a CAI. IMO. just a bit restrictive based on the design which is why a GAB works so much better.

Yeah, I wish I hadn't thrown out the intake piece (snorkel?). I would like to have that as well as my short ram. Kinda direct colder air towards the intake.

Aren't there potential hazards in cutting a hole in your wheel well. Especially during the wet months? I've seen some sort of a breather. I guess that would help.

How about the WeaponR intake system with the hose and slot? My only problem is I don't see where I could mount the slot. I'd love to cut a scoop into my hood, but my wife will kill me and I'll still run into issues during the wet months.

Don't cut a hole in your hood. The Maxima is a nice car, don't disrespect her beauty like that. Plus it would look . Cutting a hole in her wheelwell is not a problem. The filter stays dry because of the splash guards. You can also buy a K&N drycharger sock to cover the filter. Unless you drive the car in water 12" deep you should be fine. Personally I won't use a K&N filter. AEM Dryflow is the way to go. Been using one for 10k miles and it's great. I would have done this if I had known more when I put on my intake. Hindsight is 20/20. If I keep my Max I will eventually do this, but I am looking at a 96 GT-R Skyline with 77k kilometers, completely unmolested (bone stock) for $18k. Gotta get Wife's permission first, and that's a hard sale!

AEM dryflow FTW. Good luck selling the wifey on the GT-R. I'm sure you'll need it.

There are splash guards in the wheel well??? Maybe I'm going crazy and don't know enough about my I, but I don't remember seeing any splash guards.

Does anyone have a picture of what a finished CAI looks like from the wheel well?

Btw how much was the AEM filter?

AEM filter, $45.+or- a few $$$.

Okay, imagine that the blue lines are the pipe and filter. (my art work sucks) If you look directly behind your foglight, in front of your tire, between the fender and inner wall of the engine bay, that's where it would go. Remove the plastic connectors around the wheel well. The plastic wheel well should remove. In that open aera is where the filter goes.

Isn't that a 6th gen? I've got a 96. 4th gen. I might be mistaken, but I don't think we have the same room you guys have I've looked and looked and looked. Even to the point of pulling over in a McDonalds parking lot to open up my hood with a flashlight and contemplate where piping could go. It's really difficult with the limited space in our engine compartments.

Are there any CAIs for the 4th gens? And do they fit the same? Sorry I should just go search for threads on it.

My general manager drives a 4th gen, I'll look at his tomorrow and tell you what I see. BTW, I drive a 5th gen, and there's plenty o' room. That car is the only one I had good pics of that were both front and side.

Kinda like this:

She asked: "will you want to mod that car too?"I foolishly answered: "Of course!""So you want to get a car payment and the expect to spend more money on top of that?""That'd be cool""NO""But""NO, NO, and NO! Why don't you keep your Maxima and you can do whatever you want to it, within reason."When she said that, I couldn't argue. From this day on I have a $6k spending limit on my Max. $2k (give or take) per year.

Yes the filter will fit between the outer fender and splash guard in a 4th gen. I looked today. It'll be a tight fit, but it will fit.

I use K & N on my injen CAI. I love it. But a lot of people are not to fond of the red liquid that is in the filter. It can mess up a MAF and ect. What i do i have two filters and let one dry out after i clean it and reoil it as i'm using the other. If u let the K & N sit for awhile you can see oil drain out to the bottom of the box.

Why is the dryflow filter better than a K&N? I'm not defending my K&N, just wondering.

K&N uses oil which can cause problems with the MAF. Dryflow doesn't use the oil, so you don't risk the MAF issues.
