Did you use any chemicals, or did you do it dry?

I just scraped it as clean as I could get it with the razor then used the scotch bright pad by hand on it dry. Then sprayed it with brake cleen and compressed air when I was done to get the dust off

Awesome build Justin!

I have a few questions for you, all you got done to the head was hot tanked? no valve job or anything like that? Also did you re-use all oem valvetrain? besides seals of courseDid you have any issues with the shims and guides? Ive been stressing this. Im debating reusing mine..

Cant wait to see this back in a fresh engine bay!

Thanks, it's in. I'll post pics tomorrow. It's not running yet still gotta finish up a few things on it.

The head was only decked and hot tanked. No valve jobs or anything like that. All I did was take a wire wheel on my dremel and take all the carbon build up off the valves and valves seats to make a better seal. I was skeptical of doing tihs at first, but you won't damange the seats or the valves as you can see how they cleaned up in the pics

I figured I since I wasn't building the head yet I might as well just wait on getting any head work done

I reused all the OEM valves, guides, springs, retainers, rockers, lifters, and shimsI had them all seperately bagged up labeled where they go.

what piston ring gaps did you use?

The ones that CP calls for for turbocharged engines. The pistons come with a chart to figure them all out.For turbocharged it was the cylinder bore x .0065My bore was 3.406"

So 3.406 x 0.0065 = 0.022

And that's only the top compression ring, they also give you specifications for every other ring too (second compression and oil rings)

Thanks I figured it out. I misunderstood the table they gave me. oil ring clearance min of .015" I thought you had to compute that into their equation to get your gap. haha i was wrong.

Okay, yeah their chart was kinda confusing at first I had to read that sheet like 5 times til I completely understood everything

Here's an update

Yay engines in and intercooler piping is complete

But heres when everything went wrong.I walked over to my shelf to grab a gasket for the downpipe. When I got there I noticed the rear main seal was sitting on the shelf still in the unopened package. Oh f***, I found the old seal just incase I maybe put the old one in by accident.Well I didn't I just didn't put a rear main seal in lol

So from there I pulled the engine out, trans off, clutch, flywheel and put the new rear main seal in, bolted everything back together and had the engine back in the car in exactly 1 hour. I think I made pretty good time on that..

Next I finished everything and it was time for first start up. I wasn't nervous up until now. I hooked up the battery and cranked it over about 15 or 20 times until I had full oil pressure. Then connected the fuel injectors and cranked it and it started on the first crank and idled beaitufully at about 2500rpm. I think it was idling high since the ecu was disconnected for so long.

Then the idle came down after a while and it's been idling and driving great ever since. The car isn't registered so I can only drive it up and down the street right now. (waiting on the kid to get me a new title)

Other then that she runs great, and no leaks.Oh and notice no more green stripes either! Spray painted the roof and the trunk gloss black

Did your shop give you break-in instructions? Or do you have your own that you follow to break-in the engine?

Just ACL bearings and some new OEM components. Nothing major by any means...

I'm just breaking it in slowly by driving it. Not really beating on it.

I've only put about 15 miles on it so far driving up and down the road.I only hit full boost once. Havn't really gone over 4.5k rpms yet.

But now since the cops came to my house yesterday I can't drive it down the road anymore until I get it registered so I'm waiting to get a duplicate title from the original owner

Then I will cruise with the engine for about 1000 miles before I really start gettin on it

I forgot about this thread after I completed the engine rebuild so heres a little update.
I've put about 4000 miles and 4 drift events on the rebuild and still running strong
Since I last posted I put on SPL inner and outter tie rods, AIT M4 body kit, rota grids, SSQV bov, beer tap shifter

But now it's time for more power, so I've slowly been gathering parts for my turbo build.
So far I bought a top mount manifold, down pipe, tial wastegate, and precision turbo. Turbo has not arrived yet.

I will update as I gather more parts and start the build
