I recently picked up a legal 1995 R33 GTS-T skyline that is completely bone stock. I am wondering what my options are for lowering it for the moment. I have found the TEIN Super Race coil overs but for now I don't want to spend 2500 bucks on lowering the car a few inches. I realize these would be great and would help handling immensely but that isnt in my budget right now. The car looks afraid of the pavement at the moment though.

I was also wondering what types of rims people would recommend that would have enough dish on the outside to sit flush with the side of the car because at the moment it has stock rims and tires and they sit back in the wheel well a bit. Also I am thinking of somewhere in the 18" - 19" range.

Also where is a good place to get exhaust. I purchased a Right hand drive Silvia a few years back (which I subsequently have for sale right now) that has an RB25 in it and 3" exhaust to the back. That thing sounds amazing when I start it up but of course the skyline with the same motor and stock exhaust sounds like an altima when you start it up. Is there a good company I can go with to get everything from that is bolt-on for the skyline to give the car a nice sound and get some more horsies out of that engine?

Thanks for any help.

Greg

Did you pick up that skyline here in AZ?

Depends on how much you want to spend on an exhaust.

I did pick up the skyline in AZ yes.

For the exhaust I was thinking maybe like 500 total but I don't know if thats too low. Could go more if need be. Maybe 1000. I just know my buddy has a friend at midas that hooked him up for like 300 on a nice sounding exhaust for his G35.

Just wondering:1) What was the ball park figure for your 33?2) How did you register it and how much is insurance?3) Who did you pick it up from?4) How do you know its legal? If I were to pick one up, how can I tell if I am not being ripped off?

I am looking to get one, thats why I am asking these questions.

- Thanks

You can purchase k-sport coilovers for $875 shipped on ebay and Teins are only about $1300. Where did you come up with 2k to lower your car??

You need a set of wheels that are about 9" rear and 8" front with around a +45 offset.

wow, threadjackaz!!! the thing about a skyline is stuff is hard to find. engine parts are getting better, but thats because people are swapping them into s-chassis (but you know that). a good set of springs with some good shocks will satisfy more than some crappy cheap coilovers. or just save a couple months. you will be glad you have properly damped suspension. A good friend had an s14 with ksports, and it was pretty good, but he picked up a set of kei office coils, and it was night and day. the teins wont disappoint. checkout takakaira or nengun, or call one of our sponsors for a special order.

as for wheels, with a skyline, you could go a lot more agressive than a 9" +45. that is weak. I hope you were joking. you could go 9" all around with something like a +20-25. you MIGHT need a roll up front. but I'm sure that nfo is out on this forum.

I wouldn't spend more that 600 for a name brand exhaust, or go custom. if you go custom, go 3 inch and make sure you add a resonator. Ebay AU is another good source for parts. Good luck!

I'm not "joking". I actually own the same model car that the question is being asked about. However, you have no idea what your talking about. I have a 1994 GTS-T and 1996 GT-R. I have a set of Work VS-XX on my GTS-T. They are 18x8 and 18x9 with a +45 and they fit the car perfectly. Any wider or any more offset and you will have major clearance issues. You might get another 5mm's of offset but you will never get another 25mm/1 inch like you recommend.

GT-R's come factory with 9" wide +30 offset rims along with their wider fenders and quarter panels. Do you really think a wider or more aggressive offset wheel would actually fit a GTS-T that does not have the wider body??

LOL he prefaced it and others asked, he hasn't answered yet so I figured what the heck lets ask about that too. Have you seen his pictures its a nice Sylvia.

It is lame without pictures. I owned a 1995 GTS-t while in Japan it was a fun car, it really was. I would love to have it here but its not possible anymore. So lets see the ride

I just checked out the Silvia. Man, that's a very clean, very nice looking car.

I'll try to take some pics of my R33's over the weekend. My 18" Work's are off of the car getting refinished so I'll have to take pics of the GTS-T with the stock wheels on it for now.

Touche. I stand corrected. why dont you post some pics of your weak offset wheels. a roll and some camber I'm sure you could squeeze out +25. I just would go a little more aggressive. where you at in clearwater? I'd love to check your stuff out. I have Family in Ruskin and Clearwater. Great beach!!!here is a link to another thread that has another link to a gtr forum. I know thw gtr has a wider base, but they are running 18x9.5 +20/+15. with the right tires and a little camber it will probably fit. and I dont like staggered fit wheels. zerothread?id=266889

I think we just have different expectations when it comes to our vehicles, which is okay. Here are my preferences:

I like the looks of flush mounted wheels but I don't like to ever deal with any rubbing.

I don't like the look of wheels that are cambered in and I really don't like replacing expensive tires that still look new everywhere but the inside two inches.

I like the lowered look but not "in the weeds". To get the look I desire you have to have enough fender clearance to be able to keep the camber in spec and not rub with suspension travel. In my opinion, this is the best look for a performance vehicle that is actually being used and not just shown.

Like I said though, it's all opinion and expectations.
