Car: 2010 G37 Journey Sedan

Post

I just took delivery of a 2010, G37, journey sedan. It has the premium and nav. package. I was going to get the sport package, but decided against it.

I just drove it from the dealer to home, about 50 miles. It seemed like it had a bit excessive wind noise coming through the closed windows. It wasn't all that bad, but kind of noisy for a new car.

The seats weren't all that comfortable for me. The bolsters weren't cradling me. They just made the seats uncomfortable. I'm 5'11" and weigh 185 pounds, which usually makes me close to the right size to fit most cars and motorcyclesI like firm seating versus seats that have poor support, so it's not that they are too firm. It just seems to be more of a fit issue. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did the seats break in better as you put miles on the car?Maybe after I play with the seat adjustments, it will be fine.

I like a fairly firm ride as long as it isn't harsh. Would the sport package have been noticeably firmer?

I thought I was going to get the self healing paint. The salesman said that it was dropped for 2010. That was disappointing.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Congratulations.

I cant speak for the wind noise, but I have driven a few new cars, and I always found them to be a little uncomfortable. Im fairly sure once you get the settings nailed down, and the seat gets broken in a little, the comfort level should improve greatly.

Welcome to Nico, and I hope you enjoy your new G. Wish I could afford one.

I had similar complaints about the road noise. I did get the sport so I have an even stiffer ride. I guess i just need to get used to it over time. I do like the power though.

I have an 08 Journey sedan and they have the same seats as your 10 model. I'm 5'10" 190lbs so we're about the same build. I love the seats on the non-sport model. The driver seat fits like a glove and holds me firmly in place when driving spirited. I have no complaints.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't notice these things on your test drive. You definitely need to examine the car's characteristics more thoroughly to ensure you don't select a car with major issues you don't feel comfortable with.

Anyway, I'm 5' 11" / 195-200, and I find the seat to be perfect for me. It's soft enough for comfort on long drives yet supportive enough to keep me planted during enthusiastic maneuvers. I noticed a bit of road noise on my test drive and it continued to bother me for about the first 500 miles. After that I got used to it. Pretty sure it's just the tires so that's a simple fix. The ride is actually perfect for me, but of course that's subjective. I don't like a mushy ride, I want to feel connected to the road and receive feedback without being jarred. I feel the G accomplishes this balance ideally.

As for that self healing paint, I wouldn't worry about that too much. I'm concerned because I DO have it. I wonder that if it was so great, why was it discontinued?

My only two complaints are the steering effort, it's way to soft even though it's quite responsive. I prefer the tighter steering of my BMW or even my dad's previous generation G35. The brakes also feel strange to me. Something is being transmitted through the brake pedal that shouldn't be. I had the dealer replace the front rotors and inspect the pads. Everything else checked out, so I have no idea what's causing this issue or if it's something that can even be corrected. I don't think I'll ever get used to it since the car has almost 3000 miles now and I was just shaking my head over it today.

Overall, my car is terrific. I don't think any "car guy" is gonna find a car that is perfect to him in every way, but considering all that my G does to make me happy, I'll gladly forgive it for a few minor imperfections.
