dam James...here I thought you would have a new land speed record officially recorded now with your GPS unit using Robert's ECU. Glad to hear you are feeling a difference. I did as well...car much much faster.

Now the question is....will Q45tech get one? come'on tech...you know you wanna try it out.

My Dinan software is fine and has allowed the engine to survive 12 years/265,000 miles out of 305k.

I would be interested in temporarily swapping ecu so Robert could read the program and contrast and compare. It appears he has delved into areas I'm sure they skipped 12 years ago.

How can anybody go wrong with such an inexpensive upgrade!

At my mileage the chains are stretched so the VE above 6,000 rpms is quite different compared to a younger engine. It's been 200,000 miles since my guides were done and the chain wasn't replaced.

I'm still looking for a newish engine to start the process all over gotta have a ready spare.

What's so hard about installing a rear in your Q? There are less than 20 nuts & bolts to remove and installation is the same. Do it yourself and save money!

PopPop....while doing a R&R on a rearend is relatively simple, the problem is swaping in a 4.08 gear for the 3.54 which definitely requires a very skilled driveline mechanic to set up the conversion.

Only a skilled & trained mechanic can properly setup a 4.08 for the Q45!!!!

Wes...sometimes I just want to b_tch slap you but I have the feeling that you will be choking on black soot from my old cars exhaust soon enough

Still you need a trained mechanic to swap over the input flange and torque thngs correctly for the skyline swap. Otherwise if it is so damn easy go get yourself a skyline diff for $300 and do the swap yourself.

Sorry Q45tech...I would have like to loan you Robert's MadMax special ECU if I knew you were interested in it, but my car as of today is no longer with me. It has been sitting for the past month waiting for its new owner and it would have been a good time to send you the NICO ECU to test out while my car was not in use. It is in the NICO family still but no longer mine as I signed over the title this morning. The new owner has 2 ECU's...my original JWT and now the NICO ECU. Maybe he would be willing to allow you to test out the NICO ECU.

Yes, but that is NOT installing the differential into the car, which is what i was referring to!!! And, you said about installing the 4.08 R/P into the Q45 case, which is not what I was talking about.... Depending on james' experience, i may do the whole thing myself... Regardless, if I spend $500 on a diff, and $100 on having the flange installed PROPERLY (I have a used flange from my old diff, or worst case $95 for a new one), im still going to be WAY MORE ahead of the 4.08 race than you . hell, even if we just look at "round 1 of Rob's 4.08", im pretty close!

so i have a feeling your arguing about one thing, and IM arguing about another thing...

BTW, after that $350 speeding ticket i got a month ago,i wont be buying any differentials soon, but I do plan on doing it sometime (this summer).. I already have a source for the R32 4.36 diff, which i may go with, it just kinda depends....

NOW you probably REALLY want to slap me silly!!!

Ahh Wes....$350 speeding ticket is nothing. I am actually looking here on my office desk at my "expunged" court order of my misdemeanor reckless driving ticket from last year which is a full arrest & release with promise to appear in court. Nothing $1,000 and your friendly neighborhood lawyer can't solve. I got busted for going well over 130mph. It was a non-radar/laser patrol car that was under cover/unmarked in an all red Mustang GT. It was 7am in the morning and road way wide open so I decided to have a little fun and took off from 80+mph and when I did there was a Mustang hanging about 2~3 car lengths back. Well.....after I hit my 3~4 shift @ 135mph I noticed something flashing in my rear view mirror and what do ya know. I damn cop. The ticket was thrown out of courts instantly becuase he had no concrete proof of my speeding except saying that he had to hit 140mph to catch up to me. The problem was getting the arrest erased off my record. Even though the ticket was tossed out, my record of being arrested was still with me and so I had to go through an expunge process to get it totally erased. You only get 1 opportunity to have an arrest expunged so I used my one get out of jail ticket. In all the cop was pretty cool given the situation at hand...he did say he could not believe how fast I took off and he had is car floored trying to catchup to me for which he did when I leveled off the speed at 140mph to cruise for a couple of secs before coasting back down and at about 120mph is when I noticed him coming up behind me. He thought that somehow I was running from him which made him think I was some real bad dude but later realized I was just having a little fun and was not some drug dealer. It was a lesson well learned....and yes, I still go 140mph when the road is wide open, but this time I don't only look infront of me I also look behind me to make sure there is not any cars that would see me rocketship my car away from them at 80mph.

Thank goodness I did not have to go downtown. That would have really sucked.

I number them, and I'm up to no. 33. That includes a couple for myself and does not include the first three or four.

I'll still do them if there is demand, but in general it takes a long time because I'm just one guy doing all the soldering/socketing/burning/assemblyl.

I just want to make sure that people ordering them know that it might be a month before they see their ECU again. I'm doing this for fun, not because I need the money.

You CAN switch while the engine is running but I would not reccommend it.

You might cause a temporary lean condition - also, things like ignition timing, etc. will be essentially random for a short time.

Best policy is to switch with the engine off.

Anybody located in or around Zephyrhills, FL with a NICO ecu? I have one and want to swap with someone else to see if there is a difference in power. I Have the Max model with 3 power levels and 1 valet mode. I haven't been able to notice a difference other then it will rev past 7000 when in level 2 or 3. It actually seems to loose power in level 3 and lags in power from the start. I bought it back in March I believe. I swapped the ecu into my mom's 1991 Q with the same results. I hear everybody else noticing a big difference in power and off the line throttle, and wonder if maybe mine may have a problem.

Not sure anyone could feel a 10 HP or even a 20 HP difference in an engine, as at best that would be 0.2 seconds change out of 15 seconds.

1.33-2% [timewise] is hard for humans to resolve.

Hard to measure with a stop watch, easier on a timed 1/4 mile strip.

Remember it takes 100 HP increase to decrease the quarter mile by 1 full second

All I can say is that I could tell a difference in power between my car and my mom's from just how much faster her car would accelerate. When put next to mine, her's would rip mine a new one. I ended up having them both dyno'd and found that her car was getting 25 more horse power then mine and her's has the stock ecu. My car was set on power level 3 during the third and final run. Her car out performed my car all 3 runs. I swapped my NICO ecu with her's and did not notice any change in power. That is why I posted this to determine if it is my ECU. I've also noticed that I seem to have more power in stock mode then when set to level 3. I am just trying to narrow things down.

Did you find out how much power her car dyno'd with the NICO ecu?
