the higher RPM on start-up is normal. Especially in Winter months. It does this to get the Catalytic converters up to op. temp more quickly, thus polluting less for the overall emmissions cycle. All newer, injected cars are this way. The RPM's should drop back to "normal" within a few minutes of start up.
The fuel pump issue is a whining/whirring sound, much louder than normal -- you'll know it when you hear it.
As for your car, it probably sat on the lot (or another Dealers lot - they trade cars sometimes) for 9 or 10 months. Built in Jan. 08, probably received at the dealer in Feb. or March of 08, then you bought it in December. Yours MAY get the fuel pump noise, OR the dealer may have already fixed it per the TSB that's been out for awhile. Your service advisor can look it up to see if your car was already fixed.
Should it happen, you will know it. You have 4 years of warranty, so don't sweat it!
